Wifey Wanted A Fun Shooter?

At the silhouette match this morning, a guy had this for sale for $350.
Wife's been wanting to shoot something "fun" besides her little concealed carry cannon.
What do I need to know about this MkII?
And what's the secret to reassembling it after I strip it to clean it?
Thanks!

I have the same MKII and it is a lot of fun to shoot and after thousands of rounds the only times it has failed to go bang was because of bad ammo. The trick to assembling it is to make sure the hammer strut does not fall under the pin on the frame before putting the bolt back in. Getting the mainspring back in is a PITA and takes practice but once you figure it out its easy.

this sorta helps take care of the PIA reassemble of the MKII

I bought an unfired MKII 5 or 6 years ago and have never fired it. :(
I have stripped it several times to get familiar with it, because I always heard that they were a PITA to reassemble.
I never had any trouble putting it back together.
Stripping it was more PITA, to me, because of that stiff-arsed spring on the little lever on the grip frame that you have to pry out to strip it.
Is there something wrong with me?

Paper clip??
If you are giong to get into the MK pistol the above will help. The Mk is really not a PITA to strip/ detail strip, once you know how the parts fit together and do it a couple of times. Good luck

I was going to take my MII to the range and run a brick through it today. unfortunately, I have a sinus infection and bronchitis. No fun time for me.

That'll work. Hard to beat a MK II. Just follow the maunal as you are taking it apart and putting it back together. It is EASY.

Thanks, I think I have it down now.
She can't wait to shoot it.
I have an extra Microdot in case the Burris is too heavy and makes the gun unbalanced.

I like Micro Dots on handguns, with .22's being no exception.

If the trigger is not quite what you want, a VQ sear will make a world of difference. Installation is very easy...Do not use the bolt stop like a slide release. You can easily round off it's edge causing the bolt to fail to lock back on empty.

looks like is already has a VQ trigger and very likely a VQ seer. That's gonna be one sweet shooting pistol.

Thanks, I really hope so.
To be able to spend more time with my wife and share the hobby will be a blessing even if she does eventually out shoot me.
Afterall, her eyes are 14 years younger than mine. :uhoh:

That gun makes me think back when I took the class to get my CWP and there was a lady there with a similar Ruger.(not sure if it was a MK I/II/III but it looked the same just without the scope, and had the 6 7/8 barrel I believe it is) Anyway she was kicking everyone butt in terms of her pattern, and accuracy. It was pretty funny seeing this smallish women pulling that long gun out her holster also. LOL. Good times.
Nice gun. I would love to pick one up some day to have a good pinking gun.

Got lucky, I guess.
I didn't know anything about the differences between the MK's.
Can anyone tell if the trigger system is a Volquartsen?

Stripping it was more PITA, to me, because of that stiff-arsed spring on the little lever on the grip frame that you have to pry out to strip it.
A video I found while learning to strip my MkII featured a Pistol Pal tool sold by the guy making the video. One of the features of the tool is a wire loop to hook over the tip of that lever and yank it out.
I improvised a similar tool from a few inches of 40 or 50# monofilament tied to a dowel. This avoids scratching anything with a metal tool. Much easier than trying to pry the lever up with a fingernail! Lighter line will probably work too, but that's what I had handy.
Another feature of the video's tool is a thin steel pin that slides past the extractor to compress a piston between the extractor and the spring,), which looks as if it could be substituted by a large sewing pin with the point cut off. I was not ambitious enough to want to try that and probably lose the extractor!

It certainly isn't the factory trigger.

Yep, aftermarket trigger, and possible other internals like the sear. Probably Volquartsen or Clark. Maybe check with the former owner. You got a STEAL!

My wife would kill to have that MKII, my skinny barrel MKII is her favorite pistol. She'd love to have one with great sights / sighting system.

You got a good deal on that pistol. That is a VQ trigger also. Disassembly/reassembly isn't bad once you done it a couple of times, just read the manual and follow the directions.

Follow the instruction manual.
There's no secret to it. Reassembling a Mark II is not difficult.

Once you learn the angle of the dangle of the hammer strut it really is not difficult.
