Anybody made this modification? If so, how do you like it?


Says it reduces lock time by up to 40%...that can't hurt accuracy any...I need all the help I can get :D

If you are a serious target shooter looking for that last little bit of consistency, it may help you. For most hunters or paper punchers they would notice no difference except that they had a few dollars less in their pocket.

Yes, it will indeed help improve your accuracy.
It's only one of many steps you can take.

But if it reduces lock time by 40%?
It will probably increase cocking force by more then 40%.

Something to think about on a slick action hunting rifle like a Model 70.

Careful what you're wishing for, cause you might lose what you got!

rcmodel...thats an interesting thought...been pondering all day (read the reply this morning)

The SpeedLock speeds up lock time by using a lighter firing pin...that part wouldn't effect bolt lift...but it also likely uses a little stiffer spring too, and you're right...that will effect bolt lift.

I had not thought of that...Thing is, one of these rifles came from the factory with a bad striker spring (my sons), it has had a lot of misfires (light strikes) and I'm certain it is the spring because I measured the firing pins in both guns and their protrusion through the bolt face (.054" on both)...the springs however are very different, one is over an inch longer than the other (free length) and is noticeably stiffer.

I ordered 2 Wolff springs because factory springs proved hard to find...the Wolff Springs are +2 lbs. though...which will also effect bolt lift some, but I'm hoping not much.

Factory springs are 23 lbs...the ones I ordered are 25...you can get up 30-32.


The SpeedLock sounds nice, and probably is...but I'd like to know the spring weight before committing to it.

Sure wish I could get a 40% reduction lock time in the '03 Series.
