Mossberg MVP

Does anyone have one of these rifles yet? I ordered the 20" barrel version which should be arriving at the LGS shortly. I plan to put a Nikon P223 scope on it and wring it out.

Being able to use the same ammo and magazines as I do for my AR-15 just seems to make so much sense I couldn't find any good reason not to get one.

Hope it turns out to be a keeper!

Please post a report on the rifle after you have had a chance to wring it out. I am interested in one myself, but they are scarce as hen's teeth in my part of Texas.

I've seen a few on gunbroker when I tried to order one from a wholeseller i was told they didn't have any because Mossberg had issue making the barrels. I want to get my hands on one too.

The gun shop closest to my house had one on their counter the other day when I went in there. I almost mistaked it for a Ruger GSR at a distance. One of the old farts in there told me to go mess around with it. This is not meant to be negative towards the gun, I just think there was something wrong with this particular one. When I went to lift the bolt handle it was like there was a stuck shell in there. It took significant pressure to open and the bolt slid extremely rough like there was sand in the action. There's no way that's the way it was supposed to be.

It's an attractive little package, although, I would want the longer barrel version.

I had to opportunity to handle one. The benchrest style stock is awesome, and probably the best part about the gun overall. The bolt felt a little loose in the receiver (which I will add is how I would describe the actions of most M40A3/A5 sniper rifles) and yeah, just not that smooth. Didn't notice anything amiss with locking and unlocking though. The bolt sure LOOKS nice.

I have one with a 24 inch Bbl. It shoots much better than I do:D. Still looking for a good load for it but it seems to like 55gr better than 62gr but that could just be cheap XM855

The Mossberg MVP I ordered through a local shop came in last week. I picked it up and took it to the range yesterday. I put the only scope I had available on it - a cheap, 3X9 Tasco. It produced a 1" group with Fusion 62 grain ammo that a buddy had (and he shot the group).

Best I could do was a little less than that with 193 and PMC 55 grain.

The good:

Rifle looks nice (see the photo). It's light and points nicely. It shot and ejected everything, including some Tula steel. Free-floated barrel. A variety of AR-15 magazines worked, the best being the supplied 10 rounder from Mossberg, which will fit into my ARs fine. Pmags took a mighty thump on the bottom to make them seat, though. Metal mags seem to work better with this gun.

The bad:

The bolt takes some effort to open. You'll have to take it down from your shoulder to load another round. Maybe it'll loosen up but I doubt it. Couple of times the bolt slid over the magazine without stripping a round - you'll notice this because less effort is required than when it picks up a round.

And my main complaint, although I knew this when I ordered it - no iron sights. I think every rifle ought to have them and I am willing to pay for them.

The ugly:

None to report - the rifle looks nice and handles well. My buddy said, "Hey, a mini scout rifle!" Yeah, right, except for no iron sights!

I'm going to keep it and get a decent scope on it. I might even price having some irons put on it by some local gunsmiths.
