I am contemplating re-lining a T/C Hawken .50 flint lock Bbl to .36 and then swamping it to reduce weight.
I have a lot of center fire rifle building experience but never attempted a re-line.
Could you please share your knowledge or professional opinion of doing such a thing.

Yes, i have attempted to just buy a .36 replacement Bbl to no avail. So Far.
If you have knowledge of a vendor that sells 'em i'm all ears.
No, Green Mountain doesn't have one.

Here are some good instructions on installing the Redmans .22 liners from Brownells.
http://www.brownells.com/userdocs/learn/Inst-143%20Barrel%20Liner.pdf

I have never did one.
I was always going to, but then end up doing the math on liners, and bits, and chamber reamers, and Accra-Glas kits.
And then I send it to Redmans.

Unless I were going to do several to spread the cost of the tooling, it just isn't cost effective for me to do just one.

In your case, it might be easier to just fit your breech plug to one of these!

I don't know where you could get a .36 cal liner with the correct rifling twist anyway without turning it out of a muzzle loader barrel blank.

And that ain't childs play on a lathe!

Thanx RC, you reminded me that i already have the instruction from days gone by.

That's also another option to use one o' them GM .36 Bbls.
That listing also shows me that i was off on my "swamping" comment.
My plan is to turn the flats off of the front half of the Bbl. which i now see is not swamping.

I sure wish i could jist git the gal up the road to come down on her price on the .36 T/C Seneca she has in her store.

Jim,
Some years back I just HAD to have a .36 cal. T/C Seneca so I bought one that I shoot on a regular basis.
I made a new set of sights as I didn't like the "pistol sights" that were factory issue.
The .36 is fun to shoot and I use a home cast patched roundball.
Could someone with Gunsmithing/Machining skills buy an after market barrel and make the hooked breech add ons to fit the T/C Hawkin?
Could be a interesting project.

Hi Zeke, i know how you felt. I am there myself right now.
There is a BEAUTIFUL Seneca right up the road at a LGS but she's way too high on price. $600 :(
I want that rifle so bad i can taste it lol.
IF, i were to get it tho i would most certainly have to convert it to stone sparked ;)

Track of the wolf has a number of octagon 36 cal. barrels - might want to look at those. They also sell liners

I have relined several .22 LR barrels. I used Brownells AcraGlas to secure the liner after drilling out the old bore. Results were great and my customers have all been satisfied with their "new" barrels. I have talked with a person who relined a .22 by soldering the barrel liner in place. Comparing the work involved, and the results, I do not see any reason to use solder when relining .22 barrels. Pressures in a BP rifle being relatively low, I would not hesitate to use a high grade epoxy to reline a ML rifle.
