NAA mini milling quality ?

Just picked up a Black widow NAA mini.
I'm curious if wavy mill work on the exterior of the barrel is common ?
Its clearly not straight where the mill work starts and ends.

Hello, jp. Not sure, but that slide looks to be an investment casting...look at the L.H. edge of's rounded. And front sight dovetail is rounded away on rear corner. And the machining looks to be done on either a surface grinder or some kind of abrasive belt type machine. Could have had a bit of chatter going across..or perhaps casting surface was low in that area.
Investment casting is capable of producing some intricate parts..but only true machining will give you the razor sharp edges the older firearms had.

They waviness is going to be the hand finsihing on a buffing wheel. Note how the dehorning isn't absolutely uniform. It was was finished, that's all, not CNC'd dehorning. The slight troughs shown also look to be from the polishing wheel and maybe a bit too much pressure, possibly buffing out a rough spot.

If you don't like it, get an Emery board and some Flitz. It is a $250 pocket gun. I don't think I would sweat the slight undulation too much.

It's clearly unsafe. Mail it to me and I'll dispose of it for you. ;)

I have the same uneven finishing on my NAA Guardian. It looks a little weird if I stare at too long, but considering how nasty it gets in my pocket it doesn't matter much. Plus, it hasn't been a problem with gun function.

Thanks for the input guys. even tho its cast i thought the exterior styling was milled in.

And the guys who blew my mind with "guns function with scratches" posts .. does that mean i can drive my car with a scratch on the bumper too ? Lol just wish someone would have enlightened me with that info years ago

A couple of points. The dovetails for the sight seem to have the lower corners relieved to assure the corner of the male dovetail does not bind in the corners at the bottom. The three point contact is assured between the two angled flats and floor of the dovetail joint.

The unevenness you are concerned about on the barrel shroud seems to occur only in the area of the slots and curved grooves that were cast in place. There is usually some unevenness in "Cast in Place" features and this is highlighted when there are ground or polished surfaces adjacent to them. If they had milled the slots and grooves; the price would have gone up significantly.

Enjoy your revolver.

Mine looks similar in a couple of spots along the barrel, but the thing shoots very well. I can keep 'em into 3.5" at 25 yards off the bench with CCI Maximag. That's pretty amazing and is what really matters to me.

Mine looks the same... but it rides in a folding holster in my pocket 99% of the time...I did buy it to look pretty...I bought it to fire when I absolutely need it to..when I can't carry anything bigger... and given I can keep everything in a 3 " circle at 10 yards....I think I'm covered.

Overweight pigs compared to the minirevolvers.

With the problems Kel-tec has had recently I would rather have a pointy stick.

Pulled out my wife's NAA mini. Can't see any of the mill flaws pointed out on yours. Few places where it got banged around by user but no mill flaws.

I don't see the flaws on my other minis, just my Black Widow has the wavy areas in the flats where it's been polished. The other guns don't have the cast in vent rib and are matte finished. Really doesn't bother me. I love the way the thing shoots and the REAL sights compared to my other two minis.
