I find the broomhandle mauser to be ugly. I also find the Nambu pistols to be very ugly.
The "Liberator .45ACP" is another example of an extremely ugly gun. The TT33 is definitely not an attractive looking gun either.

ANY handgun pointed at you is an ugly one.

It's all about perception, if you ask me.

wow! that thing makes a hi-point look good. IMHO a glock is much better looking than a hi-point. much more symmetrical. the slide on a hi-point looks like it was made by some guy in a garage with a sledge hammer, blowtorch, and a can of flat black paint.

Oh boy, this will likely not earn me many friends. Let me preface that this pistol is from all accounts, an outstanding weapon. The Walther PPQ, to me is fugly. It looks very hi-pointy, which I also understand is a reliable weapon. Both of which, however, are far more beautiful to me than a non functioning glitsy weapon. Asthetics only get you so far and I see loads of beauty in loyal reliability. Just pure looks though, the PPQ is pretty gross.

The Walther PPQ, to me is fugly.

I agree.

The wierd thing is that the Walther P99 (which the PPQ is just a variant of) is a beautiful pistol (as beuatiful as a plastic fantastic can be, anyway).

I'm not sure why Walther decided to ditch the beautiful lines of the P99 slide and grip for the ugly serrations, gaudy rollmarks, and weird paisley grip texture of the PPQ. The little indention at the rear of the PPQ slide (that is a vestige of the P99's cocking indicator) is weird as well.

PPQ's are hideous, for sure. I actually like the look of a Glock 19, although some of the larger Glocks get fugly fast (my Glock 34 is pretty hideous). Hi-points are pretty terrible looking, but then again, look at the price. I own knives more expensive than those guns.

Nobody said they didn't work. We just hate the look of them. IMO some of the picks on this thread are better looking than Glocks.

If someone handed me a Glock, I'd say thanks and go shoot it. However, if a fellow gun lover came by and said "So can I see your guns?" I'd probably not bother getting the Glock out.

If someone handed me a Hi-Point, I'd go trade it for some ammo.

I hear Hi-Point is set to release their new "Quasimodo" line of pistols. They are going to market it with a new line of matching carbines called the "The Elephant Man".

Both new lines of guns will have interchangeable back straps, and other interchangeable polymer panels that serve no purpose but to make the guns more hideous, larger, and harder to transport and carry. All polymer has been checkered to enhance its ability to snag on your clothing. Both lines will come standard with a trigger made from a coat hanger and a front sight made of a broken popsicle stick. All popsicle front sights have a black line drawn on them with a sharpie to enhance target acquisition speed. Rear sights are pigeon holed into the slide and are the highly effective "Nobak" style. These sights are machined from Budweiser grade aluminum and still have the Budweiser logo.

These guns will be chambered for the popular .25 auto, .32 auto., .380 acp, and 455 Webly. The issues with feeding 455 cartridges have been solved with the new "Toilet Paper Tube" magazine and the extended "Paper Towel Tube" magazine that comes standard with The Elephant Man carbines. These magazines are guaranteed for the entire 25 minutes life of the gun, so long as the magazines are kept dry.

All of the Quasimodo and Elephant Man firearms come standard with match grade tin barrels and are guaranteed to produce 50 degrees of angle accuracy.

Ask your local distributor for more details!

Sometimes I think the Whitney Wolverines are at the top of the list, but every now and then when I see a picture of one it makes me rethink that and I kind of want one...

Ignoring that one, I'd say a lot of the S&W's are pretty ugly. Sigma, Bodyguard .380.

I think Glock's are a love/hate thing (and I'm not just talking about some people love them, some people hate them.) When I look at a Glock and try to see it from a "gun I'd be proud to open carry" standpoint, I think it's absolutely hideous. But when I'm holding it in my hand and try to see it from a tactical / self defense or plinking point of view, I think they're fairly attractive.

Jim NE

There really need to be categories, if you're going to be fair :)

-old, obscure

-new(er), popular

The early development of ANY technology is never focused on looks, so many (though not ALL) old obscure guns can have a crude, prototypical look to them. Same holds true for cars, trains, motorcycles or washing machines. (Yes, I know - old Henrys and Winchesters aren't ugly.)

The Beretta Neos .22 would get my vote among the more modern guns. That's a shame, because the Italians usually have a great visual sense (Da Vinci, Maserati sports cars, etc.) I used to actually think broomhandles were ultra-cool when I was a kid, but not any more.

barnbwt

Or more likely:
"Stupid boss rejects my first design and then makes me stay over the weekend fixing it before the deadline... Let's see if he'll pass this POS now that we're outta time!"

followed by:
"Whoa, I can't believe they went for it ":o

In the case of some, they are as likely to kill the wielder as the target. Specifically the Japanese Type 94

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Up in the white north I heard of what they call a "Winter Woman". Usually the term means a "warm, large, hard working, cooks three large square gormet meals per day, saws/chops/stacks firewood, fixes the truck, sets broken legs, low financial maintanance, runs the trap line and always has a handy smile" type lady. She won't ever be seen on a run-way in size two clothes, but her other attributes more than make up for cosmetics.

I equate "ugly Glocks" with Winter women. Just depends on what floats your boat. :)

Post #49 the Mars pistol. Geoffrey Boothroyd, "The Handgun", quotes Royal Navy test of the Mars. No one who shot it once volunteered to fire it again. The power of a magnum, but the ergonomics tended to enhance the recoil experience.

Post #43 Stallard. The Hi Point is an evolution of the Stallard, technically improved (bug fixed) and aesthetically enhanced (prettified). If you have not seen a Stallard, imagine an ugly cousin of the Hi Point.

My vote is the Clerke First, a cast zinc revolver that looked like a toy, but that was a revolver. Still an ugly handgun. Made the Hi Point autos look good, though.

Every Glock ever made. Sure, there are uglier guns, but nobody actually owns them (when was the last time you saw a real life Hi Point?)

Taste in firearms is purely subjective, so not everyone will agree with you on that.

Glocks, anything that resembles a Glock, Highpoint pistols, (love their carbines tho'). And as for those retro pistols some of ya'll were sayin' were ugly, they may not be a plastic clone of someone else's design, or a flashy "B-B-Q gun", but they are all beautiful in theit design, especially for when they were built. After all, they did lead to all those guns that you drool and lose control of bodily functions over.

Some of those make my eyeballs hurt...

For a pistol that was widely used, I have to go with the Nambu.

For the person that posted the Beretta Neos, I own one and futuristic look sometimes wears on me, but my kids loved shooting the ray-gun when they were first learning and the look helped get them excited about shooting. For that alone, it was worth it.

Cheers!

Fugly autos?

The Hi-Point instantly springs to mind. The Nambu Type 94 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Type_94_1835.jpg) was butt ugly. I always thought the Borchardt C-93 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pistol_Borchardt_C93_Adams_1.jpg) was a little wackadoo looking, but I have to give a mulligan on that one because it was 1893 for goodness sakes and it did inspire the beauty known as the Mauser C96.

Oh and I am hip to the Spectre. I really dunno why. Guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :D

However, if you never plan on shooting the weapon as most of the glock haters, I can see why one would say such things about the most dependable hand gun in the modern world.......
