let me hear what you guys think about this

Let me say sorry if this gets to long and boring.
So I have 2 AR-15s one M4 one A4 I'm thinking of selling my A4 off as I dont care for it as much out of the two, then picking up a Mossberg 590A1 SPX that one with the 20" heavy ported barrel factory ghost ring sights 9 round tube and bayonet lug. I want to deck it out with a Mesa tactical hydrulic high rise stock and a Mesa side saddle
Everyone of my firends is into an AR kick right now, and they all think I'm crazy for what I'm thinking going from a good 300 yard 30 rounds weapon to tops 100 yards and 9 shots but I say hell if I have 4 friends with ARs why not carry something different I think the shotgun still has its place
Guess I should say I want a good tactical weapon for a anything that may happen scenario

Everyone should have at least one shotgun... what you use them for is your call. ;)

You'd be trading a 30 shot lightweight gun with about 4-5 ft lbs of recoil for a less effective 9 shot gun with about 25-30 ft lbs of recoil. 300 win mag levels.

I think everyone should have a shotgun. They still serve a purpose, but I wouldn't sell a rifle to do this. A decent shotgun can be picked up pretty cheap and keep the 2nd AR. All the accessories you are considering are just bling and add little if any to the guns effectiveness. A basic 870 or 590 with an 18-20" barrel and ordinary stock will be just as effctive and a lot cheaper.

I'd sell the upper you have and replace it with something you like better and will use. I used to have 1 AR set up with a 20" heavy barrel. It was very accurate, but I never actually used it. Sold that upper and replaced it with a lightweight 16" barrel in a mid-length upper. Accuracy is not quite as good, but still good enough. I like this version much better. Didn't cost much to make the swap.

Life's to short to hang on to something you don't enjoy.

I like my ARs but I've got two tactical shotguns that get more love. Plans for a third too. Maybe something high capacity for three gun.

You should be able to sell the A4 for enough to buy the shotgun and the accessores you want along with a bunch of ammo to run thru it.

If you regret selling the A4 down the road...they make new ones everyday.

I say sell it and get what you want. Have you thought about an auto-loader, like a 930 SPX? My thoughts are, if you're going to sell a semi-auto, might as well get something of the equivalent.

You do not need 2 ARs. Sell one and buy the shotgun you want.

Thanks you guys. I'm gonna give this some more thought as i do see the points both ways but i think for now the wait for the election and let make up my mind

i agree that a shotgun should be in every arsenal, you should be able to pick one up pretty cheap and possibly not need to sell the 2nd AR.

Sorry guys i didnt mean to make it sound like i dont already have a shotgun i do a mossberg 500 i guess more my thing is right now i know a few people that have really nice bolt guns and can make hit out to 800 900 yard pretty easy (wish i could ) then all of us have AR15s but i dont think anyone i know has the ULTIMATE close quarters combat weapon and cause i cant get a kriss vector in full auto

The clincher is that you're not enjoying (or using) one of your AR's. If you're gonna dig the 590, go for it. They sure fit the role of KISS home defense well.

I've held on to firearms before thinking they'd eventually grow on me. But they either seem to click or they don't.

You do not need 2 ARs.

.....It sure is a good thing that you posted that in the "Shotgun" sub-forum....

If you want a "ultimate CQB weapon", then I would say skip the 590, and go with a used Benelli M1 Super 90. You already have a Mossberg 500 so the 590 wouldn't be much of an upgrade. The funds generated from selling the A4 should get you all or close to what an M1S90 goes for (and you would like it much more).

Thanks again all. Yeah those Benelli are pretty sweet and I only hear good things about them. I love the speed out of them but I have trouble with a combat load on the autos. I'm sure thats just a matter of pratice.

If you value your hearing, lose the ported barrel, it really does nothing on a shotgun except add a lot of holes to clean and generate more noise to those on either side of you

No point in keeping a gun you don't shoot or really care for. I like having a smaller but still versatile gun collection. At least this way all my guns get shot and since doing so I've gotten a lot more proficient with the guns I've kept. So I say do it.

I see a lot of people who like to add all sorts of expensive things to their 870s and Mossbergs. I like to keep things simple and chose to go with a quality FNH SLP and add a night vision capable holographic C-MORE red dot to the top rail.

I get to practice with full power OO buck and not bust up my aging shoulders. Transitioning from r-l or l-r w/o short stroking is an added plus for reliability. One of the benefits of carrying an Ithaca M37 was that I never had to worry about short stroking the slide during a tactical situation/door entry.

As smooth and fast as the Ithaca was, the FNH is faster on target with faster split times. If I were selling an AR for a quality shotgun, I'd go with a semi auto; everyone will want to shoot it.

FWIW, awhile back a SWAT leader/instructor shot the SLP on 6 steel targets and I got to shoot his HK33, we both had smiles on our faces as the targets were obliterated. :)

Although I get the point, I do not like auto-loaders in shotguns.

If I was getting a second tactical shotgun after a Mossberg 500, I would get a classic with some character.

Got to try out some of those fancy $ stocks ... they all suck 70% recoil reduction my ass ! Yeah gonna get the Mossberg 590A1 and keep it how it comed... got the AR sold

I think everyone should have a shotgun. They still serve a purpose,

Well, uh, yeah...doves, ducks, geese, quail, pheasant, skeet, trap, sporting clays.....I'm beginning to sound a bit like Bubba telling Forest about shrimp.

...oh, yeah, and home defense. All the tactical dress up is just that, bling. Keep it simple, likely work better for you, I mean, unless you're a swat team entry man or something. Likely issued a weapon if that's the case.
