Fired my buddies AR and liked it so I pulled the trigger. Bought one this week. I'm getting a few accessories. I'll take any pos or neg comments on the Nikon(good buy...good customer service etc) and the case.(junk or good stuff).
I'm shooting at 50-150 yards. Informal plinking only. Thanks

Looking at:
1. (Cabelas)Bull Dog 35" Discreet AR Rifle Case
2. Nikon Buckmasters Series Riflescopes
POWER:3-9X40 MATTE,NP

Wrong post area?? I think this thread should be in Firearm Accessories....

Not familiar with the case.

The Buckmaster is an excellent budget scope, you really can't get much better without nearly doubling the price. That said, why a 3-9x hunting scope on an M-4gery for max 150 yard shooting? Something like a 1.5-4x would be more than enough, while offering a better FOV and a much smaller profile.

Bulldog cases are junk in my experience. They put a cardboard liner under the exterior to make them feel reenforced, but it degrades quickly with use. Filson Tactical, 5.11, and similar cases are much better built and well worth the extra money.

The Nikon 223 series and Leupold Mark AR series have better scope options for a little more money. I'd also prefer lower magnification on the bottom end for a semi-auto sporter.

Another vote for lower magnification scope

I have a Leupold VXR 1x4, and it is awesome

Whatever case suits your fancy and protects your AR to the extent necessary (Hey, yeah it's a Colt - but it is an AR, they can handle some abuse). I have one small Bulldog and it's not all that great. I like our local gun show for cases, there are usually more than 3-4 sellers and they have little price wars. The Liberty Sports Manufacturers cases are made in the USA, not expensive and protect nicely.

3X9 is simply heavier overkill, 4X is about all you will need. Some nice 1-4X's out there now. I only scope my 6.8SPC. 5.56 is red dot (Aimpoint Pro 1x) or just BUIS.

Thanks everyone. This is new to me(scopes) and I want to buy right the first time. Same with the case...rather pay more and get more. Scopes...I might shoot at greater distances. That's what the 3x9 was all about.

Routinely shoot AR at 200 to 300 yds. with peep and post. Every other month at 600 same way. Scope not necessary for this rifle. You will need a cheek pad to even see out of a scope due to the height of comb. Try it with irons and enjoy!

You will need a cheek pad to even see out of a scope due to the height of comb.
If he was mounting it on top of a carry handle he would, but the 6940 is a flat top, so he won't need a cheek pad.

I do agree that a 4x is plenty of scope to shoot out to at least 600 yards.

Iron Sights.....I wear progressive glasses. Need optics to clear the picture up. Otherwise I would take advantage of the iron sights.
Optics work great for me.... especially on a pistol. Have been using UltraDots. Also have Ruger 10/22 with a cheap scope. Works well. Good enough for the kind of shooting I'm doing.
My friends AR has a 3x9. That's why I was referring to it. I liked it on his Bushmaster. I shot ok for the first time with it.

Cases... Uncle Mike or Wilson Combat??

I recently bought the Nikon P223.

Feel free to crack on the turrets...but I do like a low magnification fixed power scope.

I ended up with a Nikon P223 3-9x40 and P223 mounts. I like the combo. I reconfigured a golf ball last Sat. I fired 300 rounds of PMC X-Tac so far. The Colt is flawless. I think I will continue to use the X-TAC for now. It works. Why change. I'm real happy with the 6940. Expensive but a One-Shot deal. A BiPod and I'm done for a while.....I think....I might be...maybe.

My 6940 is my favorite AR. Nice choice. Get several scopes, flop them on and off as your target distances dictate. That's what the monolithic upper begs for!

I've got the Nikon M-223 3-9X 42mm BDC600 reticle for range, and a Walther red dot for close range. The Nikon really surprised me. Spot-on software online or standalone for different cartridges is very handy. I need glass on a rifle also because of vision issues. The red dot isn't a red dot, but a slight smear because of my vision as well, but it works.

I have Ruger 10/22 with a Butler folding stock, flash suppressor and 30rd mags. Has an inexpensive .22 scope. It looks and shoot great. I lost interest in it years ago and hardly shoot it. Only shot it indoors at 20yds. I'm not much of a rifle person. The LE is my 2nd rifle and I must say it is quite an interesting weapon. It's looks, feel and performance make the AR a keeper. If this is my next and last rifle I'm very satisfied with it. I found an outdoor range where I can really appreciate it. As my father in law would say..... wear it out and buy another one. I doubt I'll wear it out but I bought it to use...and I'm gonna put some rounds through it. I doubt I'm done buying for a while...The weak do fold.
Thanks for the positive replies.
