I am currently using IMR4350 for my 270 Win loads. It is probably the worst metering powder I have used at this point in my reloading career due to the shape. Please recommend me another powder to try that:

1. Meters/measures well
2. Is popular for 270
3. Allows for a good amount of velocity in 270 (working on deer loads)

I use H4350 for my 30-06 loads and it meters well for me. While 4350 is a good powder for the 270 so is H4831 and more so H4831SC which is the short cut version of the powder. I think H4831SC will solve your metering problem and it's a good powder for the job too.

H-380 works for me and it metters like pouring water. And my SAKO 270 shoots it very well.

I have found Ramshot Hunter to be the ticket for metering, velocity, and accuracy out of my .270 using both 130 and 150gr loads. It is one of the few powders that I have actually hit the published velocity with the published load data.

YMMV but I have gone to using it almost exclusively for this sized case, and so far haven't found it to be lacking much from anything else I have used.

I have never found a powder that meters better than IMR 8208 XBR. I've also found accuracy very consistent and good in my 270 Winchester and this load has been tested with excellent results on several deer, groundhogs, crows, etc.

I like IMR 4064 in the .270.
My Ruger #1 puts 3 shots under 1/2 " using 44 grs. behind a 140 grain Sierra.

The Ramshot powders are ball rifle powders and work well with acceptable 'hunting' accuracy. I think HUNTER powder will get you what you need. Ramshot powders meter very consistently and will give you what you need.

I'm with cpt-t. I LOVE me some H-380, but I've never loaded it for .270. It works well for .30-06 for me, so I would imagine it would be good for you as well. You talk about smooth metering, it's the cat's meow.

One of my all time favorite powders for the .270 win has long been IMR-4350, but I don't use a powder measure, only my beam scale. However, H4831SC will meter very well and also produces some very consistent and accurate loads.

Most any of the good slow burning powders for bottle neck cartridges such as the .270 win are going to be difficult to meter, so I would suggest accepting this as just part of the process of loading for these type cartridges.

I use H4350 in my wifes 270 though...because its a bit better with the lighter 130 grain bullets and because its also what I use in my 30-06.

If she were shooting 140's or 150's in the 270...H4831 would be more appealing.

Metering is a non-issue for me, I drop the powder in the pan from the measure a bit short...and trickle the rest in from the trickler, weighing every charge.

My most accurate load, for practice, is 55.0 grains of H4831sc under a 130 grain Nosler AccuBond. I just made up some loads with 140grain A/Bs with 49.5 grains of IMR 4831. I'll be trying them out today.
