STI High Power: Can it be done?

Over on the 1911forums, we got to talking about this idea, and I thought I'd bring it over here.
What are the chances of a company like STI building a brand-new 9mm hi power if we could show enough interest? Considering how many people love this platform and use it daily, I wonder why there aren't more accessories out there for it.
Why hasn't a stainless BHP ever hit the market? What's wrong with making a stainless gun and then coating it like SIG has done with the GSR?
I'd definitely buy a stainless BHP if STI will step up the the plate and build one.
Thoughts?

Because silver-chrome fills the same market and is less tooling intensive. As for STI, last time I checked they couldn't fill the orders for the guns they make already. I think FN has dropped the silver-chrome from their lineup though so maybe someone else will pick it up...

Not a bad idea! But, I would have a hard time buying an HP that was not a Browning.

I like this idea a lot; have them produce both a Target Grade without the mag disconnect or FPB, and with a crisp 3.5 lb. trigger, and good adjustable sights, and also a Tactical Grade with a good 4lb trigger and night sights. Both would have beavertails and nice Spegal Rosewood grips as standard. I think they would be winners!

There was a company in KY or TN that produced a stainless steel hi-power back in the 1980's and (maybe) in the very early 1990's, I believe. Baford (or Bafard?) Arms. A search should easily turn it up. They are listed in the Blue Book. I had a chance to buy one at one point but passed on it. I wish that I had bought it just for the hell of it.

If you have blueprints and enough money, you can build a BHP frame & slide out of whatever you want. I'm guessing the machining cost would be extremely high.
That said, I'd drop $3k on a Titanium-framed BHP in a second.

I've often wondered why there aren't more people making custom BHPs. If STI would do that... I probably couldn't afford it for a long time... but I'd still want one.
I'm a little ways off from being able to afford something that's full-custom like that, but it would be sweet.
