I have a problem with the thumb safety on a Norinco Model 213 not working correcting. It does not engage and lock the hammer when pushed in safe position. Reassembly and disassembly has not helped. Suggestions?

I ordered a couple surplus military Chinese Tokarevs in the 1990s through Shotgun News for $80 each.

The pistols were a great design and acceptable workmanship.

Except the safeties added on for US import. They looked like they were made with free hand grinding. One was safe in the rear and one was safe in the forward position.

I removed the safeties, for safety sake.

I now have so many Tokarevs, I do not know if I still have those two Tokarevs or the safeties I took off. I have taken the import safeties off all the ones I have fired.

The 213 is unusual.
I appear to be the only one on the internet that has figured out that the 213 hammer group is not interchangeable with normal Tokarevs.

Are not others taking these things apart?

I removed the safety on mine, too "for safety's sake," as the above poster pointed out, so frankly I can't tell you how to fix it.
As far as I can tell though, they are haphazardly installed post manufacturer safeties that don't consistently work one way or the other. Maybe try installing it with the hammer already back or forward or however you haven't had it yet?

The safety is not great, the only problem on the one I had after I ironed out the mag issue was the safety. Otherwise they are great guns, surprisingly low recoil too!

Kiln,

Don't leave me hanging. How did you solve your safety problem?

I sold the gun. If I had kept it the safety would have come out. The TT33 was never intended to have a manual safety in the first place.
