Building a RIFLE bullet trap..

I'm looking to build a bullet trap that to can handle up Hi-powered rifle rounds (But not .50 BMG, more like 30/06 and 7.62x54R). I am going to shoot in my backyard, but i don't want to build a berm. The idea is to contain the lead, and not to contaminate the land or any water source.
I would like to have it preferably mobile, any thoughts or ideas?

If you build it tough enough to catch full-power rifle bullets, it won't be easily mobile. Not cheap, either. You'd probably have to build the whole thing out of thick AR500 steel.
And with not wanting to build a berm- if you miss the trap, where's that shot going to end up?

I heard that some guys fill up one of those bule plastic barrels with sand.. they say it lasts a good long while. You can sift the lead out pretty easy. Make sure to put it in front of a berm though.

The problem is your mobility requirement. The only way I can see something that would be effective in stopping high powered rifle rounds being mobile is if it were built on a trailer that could be towed in and out of position with an ATV or truck. An old trailer with a wood framed backstop in 6' - 8' depth of polypropylene bagged dirt would likely do the trick.

when i say mobile, i mean non-permanent. so moving it is possible. if i miss the box, it will go into the ground, and there's nobody behind it.
