I came across some pumpkins and a little spare ammo, so I decided to have some fun. I went to the local range and decided to "carve" them, and see what some 12ga slugs and a little .223 would do to them, figured it may give an idea of what it would do to a bad guy. A few disclaimers: in no way to I think that the damage done to a pumpkin will be the same done to a person in a defensive situation. A pumpkin is just the best substitute I have available. Second, in my short 2 years of owning/shooting shotguns, I have never fired slugs through it. It is purely a home defense/recreational weapon, so I never messed around with slugs. Going into this, I was expecting some painful recoil (I have heard many people talk about how it can be an unpleasant experience). The pumpkin in the video is roughly 15-20 feet away.

The slug did some pretty good damage, with that being said, I'm still not loading slugs for it's home defense role.

This is a front view: the pumpkin was roughly 15-20 meters away. I fired three rounds of .223 at it

That's a back view of the damage done.

All in all, it was a fun, and informative time at the range.
