interesting. what chrony are you using and how far from the muzzle?
that underwood 124 grain load is nice. any signs of over-pressure in the weapon or on the cases? is the primer flowing back into the firing pin hole? what is the case brand? throw out that low reading and velocity is 1440.
same questions regarding the 147 grain load.

No signs of any pressure, stuck cases, etc... Brass is Starline all with Speer Gold Dots.

Oh Chrony is an F1 about 8 yards from the shooting rest.

thx, do you shoot at a target, or just shoot into the backstop?
November 1, 2012, 09:21 PM
No I put up a target immediately behind it and aim for the bull.

Wow. Those are .357 Mag ballistics from a 9mm.
Has anyone else chrono'd those loads that can confirm Intercooler's numbers?

The most I care to use in my Glock is Winchester 175s. I will pass on Underwood 10mm offerings.
November 2, 2012, 02:43 PM
Pablo why is that?
You are leaving alot on the table at Winchester level (besides they are $1/bullet).
Did you see the PBR special I posted here? They are doing a strong run of 10mm since I prodded Anthony ;) enough to get him to introduce another line. He isn't using 800-X to achieve the results for someone that would rather have that. All loads from 155-200 are in the mid 600lb. range. Not at the upper end like Kevin's but darn strong 10mm.

That's some pretty nice 9mm number's. 220 grain 10 mm is not too bad either.

I wouldn't be so much worried about those Underwood 9's suffering from overpressure as much as I'd be worried about the added energy sending the slide back with enough power to beat the frame and slide to death.
I'm sure no lasting harm is done for a test of this sort but if that is the ammo you want to shoot on a regular basis you'll want to switch out the recoil spring to something far more stiff than the stock offering. Otherwise the slide will slam the frame at the end of the rear travel with hammer like force.
Despite the need to consider such mods I have to say that I'd love to try some of that stuff. It must have a pretty good kick to it.

Here are some more data points.
Chrono 5 long paces from muzzle
Temp 65 deg F
Double Tap 230 WFNGC…. Avg 1,045 fps … ES 19 fps … 4.6” Bbl
I had a Chrony that would, on occasion, give very high readings – it drove me crazy – just sayin.

Well I do setup with a known .22LR round. Then I retest ammo what seems over and over again. This same XD gave 847 FPS with PPU Partizan subsonic ammo rated at 930 FPS. I would say it's reading correctly.
I had to do the 1500 FPS 9mm twice because nobody believed it.

Something with XD's? Someone else is getting some snap!
