I know it's wrong, but I do it anyway.

Lately I've been going around putting rubber grips on my revolvers. Is there something wrong with me? I mean, they do seem more comfortable, but it must be a sin to ugly up a revolver like that...

If it is a sin, I'm in a heap of trouble. All my revolvers,
double actions that is, have Pachmayr signature grips.
Single actions and 1911s I prefer wood. Smooth on the
single actions, sharp checkered on the 1911s. I don't
care what they look like if they are comfortable and
permit me to shoot better.

No probs! Thing is .. once rubbers taken off and originals put back on ... gun is once more original. So - they are temporary for the duration.
They do help . I use many .. even those Hogue thingies that take superhuman strength to fit over the grip on semi's!!! :D
So ... why is it wrong? It isn't IMO if it suits you and ..... as said ... it ain't permanent!:)

Provided there's no finger grooves, rubber grips on revolvers are fine by me. Finger grooves displace my fingers too low and give me less control on recoil.

I use to would not entertain the thought of a set
of rubber grips on any of my gun's; but now days
all my revolvers where Hogue rubbers!

I hate rubber grips. Give me wood, stag, bone, anything but rubber grips. Even plastic is better for me than rubber grips.
Your guns are yours though, do what suits ya!!

Had them for a while on my Super Blackhawk to tame the recoil. Took them off once I felt I could handle the recoil. Nothing wrong with rubber grips on a revolver.

Wrong?
By whose definition?
Almost all of my revolvers sport rubber grips. If someone else doesn't like it, well then they can try to buy the particular gun from me and put the "right" grips on it.
As I told a particularly obnoxious person once...
It's my life. If you don't like how I'm living it, stay the :cuss: out of it.
I can't even begin to remotely care what people think about what I do.

I don't like the look of rubber stocks at all.
However, I bought a few revolvers that had rubber stocks on them. I left the Hogue stocks on them and thought they were fantastic. I have a pencil barreled Model 10 with Hogue stocks that feels like a dream in my hand.
The Packmeyers (sp ?) don't feel nearly as good to me.
If you like them, by all means have at it. There is certainly nothing wrong with it.

If you like them then by all means use what suits you. It is your gun. I personally have a bag full of rubber grips that have come off all my revolvers. I like mine wood and smooth as a baby's behind.

For all of your guys who have to pay all of that money to replace those old-fashioned, out-dated wooden grips with new superior high-tech poly-whatchyamacallit ones.
I'll gladly take some of your yucky old wooden grips off your hands.
Especially if they are smooth, fit a S&W N-frame and have those gaudy S&W medallions embedded in them.
Heck, to show what a nice guy I am I'll even pay for the shipping.
:D :) :D :) :D :) :D

I'm really considering a rubber grip on a model 19.
Got a couple of factory grips for it. They look exceptional and one even looks downright sexy, but even though they are both checkered they are both still a hair too slippery for my taste and they make me choke up on the grip too much without even trying.
I do hate the thought of putting rubber grips on it, but I know it's the true solution. Hell, I've got rubber grips on all of my classic autos now......
Yea, they make a super high quality gun look like @$$, but they grip much better. I'm talking BHP's and 1911's....
I know, it's a DAMN SHAME, but function takes precedence over beauty except in the rarest case.
I'd pay some decent money for full checkered wood grips for a model 19 (I'm talking every inch checkered and without the choke up style) with a nice grain.
I bow to the mighty rubber tree gods.

I can relate. I used to compete in IPSC with a souped up 1911. I preferred good old wrap-around rubber grips. Same for all my little S&W revolvers that I consider defensive guns; they're all fitted with rubber boot grips. Love 'em.
Even with my Colt SAAs, I prefer the feel and contour of the original hard rubber grips. If I replace them, I have to have the exact same configuration/size.
I think there are those whose main focus is how a gun feels and looks while holding it in one's livingroom. I think those of us who shoot extensively put more value on the feel, size, and grip of a firearm as relates to shooting and carrying. If that allows for beautiful wood or ivory grips, so be it. For me, it's often ugly black rubber.
Now for big Smith N Frames, I prefer the old wooden grips, and for old military 1911s, I like to keep them original, since I don't shoot them in matches anyway.
My .02 worth.

Is there something wrong with me?
I don't think so. I've got rubber grips (mostly Hogue) on all my double action revolvers.
My guns are for shooting, and Hogues feel best in my hands.
YMMV...

All of my handguns have their original grips, except for my KP-90 Ruger. The KP-90 sports the Hogue's with the finger grooves.

My Dan Wesson .44 wears a set of Pachmyr rubber grips... I have a set for (but not currently ON) my Dan Wesson 15-2HV... and my new Smitty 637-2 CAME W/ Uncle Mikes rubber "boot grips" right from the Smith factory...
ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong W/ rubber grips... and as stated earlier, they are EASY to change back to original!
