so this Marlin the son-in-law gave me is a 60's production, and has the famous .434 groove barrel..

Montana Bullet Works offers a couple different .433's, with & without gas checks, or I could get a sizer, undersize them and paper patch it.

what think ye, o' guru's o' knowledge and other smart stuff?

first way, I'm a little limited on what bullet to use..
second way, I'm buying a piece of equipment to load one caliber..
(unless I end up getting into casting, which ain't looking real likely at the moment)..

If you want to shoot cast bullets, then ignore me since I hardly ever use them.

I would probably try some .429 inch jacketed bullets and if they shot well enough would go with them. If I couldn't get jacketed bullets to shoot well I might break down and try oversized cast bullets or have the gun rebarreled.

If you must shoot cast, I' at least try the .433 boolits...

The .430" Hornady 265gr JFP (sku #4300) was specifically designed for the micro-groove .444 Marlin, and they are a proven combination...

Wow, my 60's vintage has a .4295 bore. That one must have some serious mileage on it.
You could also look to Beartooth Bullets. Marshall is a proponent of shooting cast sized
properly to your bore, about .001 or .002 over bore diameter.
Or try jacketed, might work well (?)

Congrats on getting a superb rifle. Hopefully you find a combination that works well in it.

Also, a Lee push through sizer is only about $13.

If it is a nice rifle why don't you get it rebarreled to something you can buy bullets for.

You can hand lap a .429 mold that suits your fancy very easily.
