A gun shop near me had several P220 magazines, none of which were NIB. Two of them were in very good shape and identical in appearance. They are also 7 rounders.

They did not have any particular branding on them that would turn me away. It didn't say Pro Mag.

It said "SIGARMS P220 .45 CAL" on one side, and "MADE IN ITALY" on the other.

Does anyone know who makes these, and if they'll work? They're in good shape. Which also worries me. I'd rather see one that had been worn, because then I know it was functional at some point.

Anybody know anything about them? Seeing "made in Italy" made me decide to go for it, since mec-gar is an Italian magazine mfr. The shop owner told me I could return them for a full refund if they didnt work. A generous offer for used mags!

Could be the original 7 round magazines that the 220 came with. If the price is right (and you know you can bring them back), and you need some more magazines, I'd probably buy them.

They were $18 each, so no big deal. I'm just wondering who made them. My P220 came with some 7 round mags with the SIG Sauer moniker on them and a rubber cover on the baseplate. These had plain steel baseplates.

Even I'm a bit confused here.

The original 220 magazines had flat sheet metal bottoms and either a zipper or dovetail pattern up the seam on the back. The are usually marked with the SIG interlaced S's in a circle. These magazines were manufactured in Germany and would not be marked "Made in Italy"

The current 8-round factory 220 magazines are manufactured by Mec-Gar and have a seamless back and the extended plastic base plates. Act-Mag also makes a nice 220 magazine to looks just like these, but will be marked ACT-Mag or Novak.

It is possible that Mec-Gar made some mags for the 220 before they standardized on the 8rds configuration, but I've never seen one.

Crazy, isn't it? I had been under the impression that mec-gars were all 8 round mags with a plastic baseplate.

If I can get out of work early tomorrow, I'll try putting a few rounds through them to see what happens.

I have its nickel plated buddy. Mine is actually marked Mec-Gar.

Bought it at a gun show from the "CLIPS" guy. It was loose, but sold as new. I forget what I paid for it. It was the last one he had.

I had just bought the P220 at the same show and knew nothing about P220 magazines, just wanted to get a variety to try out. This one is actually my favorite, I like how it fits flush. It also has a metal follower. I plan to pick up any more that I happen to come across, assuming I still have the P220.

It's my understanding MecGar manufactures many OEM magazines, including Sig.

The magazine bodies don't have any scratches from normal use and the baseplates are perfect. Aside from a little residue inside, they appear new. I guess even a blind elephant finds a peanut once in a while.

I always felt that the 7rd P220 mags were a little more reliable than the 8rd mags, same with the Ruger P90 7 and 8 round mags.

These could go back to the original first gen 220's that had the European mag release on the bottom of the grip. I have one of those and it only will take the 7rd metal bottom as that is where the mag catch locks in the mag. It has the zipper seam up the back and the only wording is on the bottom of the mag floor where it is stamped ".45 Auto" I bought this at an estate sale back in the mid 90's and it only came with what I assume were 2 identical factory mags. So possibly these were factory mags from back in the 80's when they were building them all in W. Germany? Or they subcontracted Beretta or similar in Italy to build for them.
