No link but the term "popular" can be defined many ways.

I'd say .22 then 9mm.

I've seen quite a few of the most popular lists... but I've not seen any that identify one caliber over another by round count, so until a documented list comes along, I'll take an educated guess, just like everyone else. :D

Worldwide civilian sales, centerfire... 9mm. In the US, I think .38 Spcl/.357Mag might have a slight edge over 9mm... if you count reloading supplies in popularity factoring. If you count all uses, including military, then we're easily back to 9mm.

ColtPythonElite has it right if you don't discriminate against rim fire... but a lot of that is used in rifles.

.22lr, .380, 9mm, 38spl/357mag, 40, 44mag, 45acp are all popular cartridges. Based on volume shot I would give the nod to .22lr. You rally can't say which is more popular because everyone has their favorites and people tend to shoot their favorites more.

And my listing of .380 is based on range pickups. I picked up more .380 this summer than any other cartridge. I'm still trying to figure out why.

BArely ? Pfft.

At least 5 more people have to own a 50 AE weapon, and use it regularly.

In all honesty, this is an impossible question to answer, and depends a lot on what your definition of "is" is.

Its ripe for trollololoing though :D

Worldwide? 9mm is easily the most popular centerfire cartridge. ;)

Used ? Maybe.

Popular ? Hmmm.....

I think the most popular is still the 50 AE.

Everyone wants a handgun round that can split battletanks in half, immediately engulf cars in shooting flames, and level buildings with a single "clip".

Thats got to be the most popular.

Most popular for use: 22lr and (maybe) 9mm. But since this is a reloading section I'll guess 38 special/357 mag. While the 9mm can be reloaded, the bulk price might make reloading not so economical.

How's that for a stab in the dark?

.22 lr

As to worldwide civilian use, the 9mm isn't even close as most countries do not allow civilians to own handguns, and those that do have many that do not allow civilians to use military cartridges - which is why you see a lot of 9x21 ad 9x23 in civilian usage

Actually the answer is really easy to find. Which hand gun do you shoot the most? That would be your most popular handgun caliber. See how easy it was to find that out.:D

For the world I would say .22 LR and then 38 SPL. 9MM is third.

He didn't limit his question to civilian use so if you include military use it isn't even close. The countries that don't allow civilian use of military cartridges is probably not as great as you think, either. Italy and Mexico come to mind, maybe you can list the others. Considering US civilians and those in Europe, the 9mm is the most popular centerfire handgun cartridge in use today with the .38 Special maybe 2nd. Especially if you consider the trends of the last 25 years or so. ;)

Based on the empties I see on the floor at the range, I'd say 9mm and .45ACP. While I shoot loads of .22lr and .38spl, I think I'm in the minority lately.

I do see loads of .22lr being shot from rifles tough, and I mean loads!

22lr, 9mm & 38 Special.

Of course that's just a wild butt guess.

Anyone else think a Poll would have been a good idea for this thread?

I think the 22LR is the most popular and will be for some time to come.

It's my favorite followed by the 38/357.
