Though in his defense, at the exact MOMENT I read this thread the nearest firearm to me was a Ruger Super BlackHawk in 357 Maximum with a 10 inch barrel. It wasn't loaded.

I suspect it would make a reasonable club.

Funny. This thought occurred to me last night as I laid in bed. If I heard a noise, and I just did, what loaded firearm would I have available immediately? This is not something I particularly think about when I am at home even though the "self defense talk" would not indicate that.

In my case at that particular moment, it was a GP-100. But when I read this thread, and my current location (sitting in front of my desk), it's a loaded Ruger LCR-22.

Things happen... I felt my very first earthquake yesterday. I had no control or advance warning and that made me feel unprepared.

I am halfway between a Pardner Protector 12 ga (Chinese 870 clone built like a tank) loaded with 5 rounds low recoil 00 buck and a S&W model 10-11 4" bull barrel loaded with my own rolled 125 gr semi jacketed hp's.

I'm at work now, so it's a toss-up between the three guns I have on me, and the shotgun in the rack that my elbow keeps hitting.

A longtime companion, over half my life, fired < 100 times. It is for that day in whatever form it might come. ostly, these days--in case of my neighbor's bull if it comes calling.

I have an SKS right beside my bed. It's an original Tula 1950 with attached bayonette, sling etc. Because of the storage laws in Canada, it's in a gun cabinet (alone) which I put the key in at night. It also has 8 stripper clips in their appropriate pouches which have rounds on them at the ready.

There is also one stripper clip sitting beside the gun if quick loading is needed.

I figure this firearm in this state should suit any need I should have for a firearm in a hurry.

At work, which is a no no zone.... closest weapon of any type is either a pair of scissors, manufacturer unknown, or a ball-point pen, a Bic Mk2, medium point, in black. :-D

My Glock 27 is sitting on the end table by my couch. Right now I'm using a Glock 23 mag wearing the grip extension loaded with Winchester Ranger hollowpoints.

It's a Bulgarian Makarov with Silver Bear HP ammo. I keep it nearby in case someone knocks on the door in the evening. Even with the peephole in the door I hate being on the other side of a standard exterior door from someone I haven't identified.

About 4 feet away is a T/C Black Diamond XR inline muzzle loader. I's got 90 grains of triple 7 powder behind a 240 grain T/C XTP saboted bullet. Primer is in the cargo pocket of my hunting pants in the next room. If someone breaks in, it will make a great club.
