Mini-14 Harris Bipod Install Question

I just installed a Harris HBRS 6-9 in. bipod on my Mini-14 using the HB14 adapter. I installed as recommended in the Harris instructions, but I end up with a gap between the adapter and the forearm stock. Try as I might, I couldn't get the adapter flush. Am I doing something wrong? The installation seems rock solid, even after multiple test deployments; I haven't taken it to the range yet, so I don't know how it will handle recoil. I have seen some pictures of this bipod installed, most flush, some with a gap. Any advice or comments?

Nice looking rifle, but it's a little hard to tell much with those shot's. Maybe a little closer and clearer.

I sold my Mini last year, but there was a gap with my Harris bipod adapter as well. Still was rock solid, and did not affect the use in any way.
