I had the very good fortune to spend an afternoon with Mr. Beard at his home one day last year. It turned out to be a spellbinding time with Mr. Beard's stories of his years with an "unnamed" govt. agency and his cold war exploits. Then there was his youth with his Godfather, Melvin Purvis.

But the collection of arms was just breathtaking. In the video you can just get glimpses of the walls of his large den. Well, all four walls are covered with arms. And all the way up the stairwell to the second floor is loaded with collectibles. You may notice in the video a quick shot of something with the name Carbine Williams engraved - Google Carbine Williams. Mr. Beard spent considerable time over the years with Mr. Williams as well. I hope he has success getting a location for his collection. If and when it opens and you are within a thousand miles, it would be worth a trip. Especially while Mr. Beard is still around to give the tours.

WOW!

The fact that he want's to set up a museum in the community to help draw interest (and to give the fellas that don't like to shop something to do downtown) is a great gesture. I hope the funding becomes available so my daughter and I can drop by and get the tour from Mr. Beard.

It's been awhile but I have always enjoyed every trip that took us to the Carolinas. Sounds like I have yet anther reason to visit the area again. Thanks for sharing the story.

That would make for an interesting museum, I'd definitely check it out. I hope something works out that allows it to happen.

I suspect that it will happen. I know for a fact that Mr. Beard has some mighty influential friends. I will update this thread when more is known.

That qualifies as a "MAN CAVE"...by any standard! I bet he would be very interesting to know. Hope his idea finds support.

Hope he has some fire and theft protection - that looks awefully vulnerable.

The collection is fantastic, but the stories behind the arms are even more so. A collection like this one is a true treasure, but the man himself and the personal experiences he relates to each one is even more of a treasure.
