I saw this news report of a Russian woman attacked by a wolf. She killed it with her axe.

Just to clarify, the wolf didn't attack her per se. She went after a wolf that was after one of her calves that she was herding.

The 56-year-old heard the cry of a calf being attacked and rushed to scare off the wolf but it turned on her.

"I was not even frightened. I stood like this, holding an axe like this. And the wolf, with an open mouth suddenly jumped on me. Jumped like that. The wolf clawed at my leg and I wanted to hit him with the axe," Ms Maksudova said.

So she went after the wolf with an ax and the wolf defended itself from a threat. The wolf did not just select her out for attack. Like humans, animals will defend themselves when threatened.

Aw, DNS, it's a third-party defense deal. Like when a dog attacks your child or a Goblin attacks some innocent in a parking lot. What the Texas CHL law allows. :D IOW, that wolf wasn't minding its own business out in the wilderness--but it obviously should have.

Any woman who takes after a wolf with an axe is more of a man than I.

That wolf wasn't defending itself, it was defending its prey from being taken away. Try taking food away from a strange dog and you'll get bitten.

They should give an all-expenses paid "vacation" for that woman and her axe to go to northern Minnesota. :D

As to the Canaidian ; "Carnegie died as the result of a violent predatory attack, either by wolves (Canis lupus) or an American black bear (Ursus americanus)" seems they just dont know...
Same for the attack in Alaska;
"The autopsy concluded that Candice Berner was killed by animals, the Alaska State Troopers said. The agency's chief said the autopsy could not determine for sure if wolves were responsible but it ruled out other causes of death. "

Im a Wolfer here in a Game unit the size if Indiana. I know fellow Wolf hunters and keep up on the latest among us, in our various doings in each village, as to Hunt Wolves, we follow Caribou herds and work out of the villages that are closest to the Herds. (Gas, parts, repair)
The last person Killed up in NorthWest Alaska was my Father in Laws first Father in law, Panekok Sampson. He died of the Rabies that the Wolf had that attacked him in his Dog lot and that was about 1943 or so.....
My father in law grew up in dogteam.Hunting days, born 1903, and that was the only Wolf attack he had ever heard of. Those men hunted hunted hunted, and would have at least had a story or two.....

In Days of Old here in the Arctic, Ferral Dogs were the "Ultimate Disaster", especcilly in packs or loosed teams.....as they knew where the camps were, didnt fear people and if hungrey enough, would tear you apart and eat you. Little children were grown up with such storys

The Russian people are fearless, and about as tough as they come.

It's INSANE to reintroduce wolves into the lower 48!
