Need some advice

OK - I have an Optima pistol - accurate and powerful. In order to hunt in certain areas I need to convert this from 209 ignition to # 11 ignition. When I went to CVA they directed me to Deer Park Products. I contacted them ( great ole boys) they said they had no conversion kit i.e. replacement breech plug that would accept a nipple for # 11 caps. Does anyone know of a source for the parts I need ?? Should I go to a gunsmith and try and get the breech plug drilled and tapped to accept a nipple ??
I would appreciate your thoughts gentlemen.

Respectfully & humbly submitted

I don't know how well that would work out due to the precision work required, but if close examination shows that it measures up to be a viable option then it could be worth a try.

Another idea would be to consider installing a musket cap nipple if allowed to be used in those restricted hunting areas because their larger surface area may be more forgiving to install.

Or a person could buy an older inexpensive conventional muzzle loading rifle that was made to accept #11 caps and then cut the barrel & stock down to turn it into a pistol configuration. The older Knight rifles may have some potential for such a conversion.

And then there's this brand new 14" nickle Buck Hunter Pro .50 pistol for sale on Gunbroker for $250 that takes an #11 cap. Because they have a fairly high resale value, you could always resell it so it wouldn't end up costing you very much in the long run.

This is a longshot but you are trying to reverse the process of creating a "Mag-Spark". Maybe you could contact Warren Outdoors ( http://www.warrencustomoutdoor.com /mag-spark.html ) and they would have an idea.

Otherwise you could order a new insert from CVA (I think they make the Optima) and bring it to a Machinist to put a tap in it and then thread it for a nipple. It might work depending on clearances. Or just hunt with a rifle.

Gentlemen - thank you for your advice - I definitely think that I will explore both options presented. I'll take a look at the pistol on gunbrokers - heck can a fella have too many pistols ?? - also I think the Optima pistol needs an # 11 or musket cap nipple so my options are open with regard to its' useage.
Again - I appreciate your taking the time to reply.... if either of you get down to S.C. let me know - steak's on me fella's

Kahnke Gun Works is long established company that builds quality muzzle loading pistols & rifles that use #11 and musket caps. They also have interchangeable barrels and a removable rear sight for scope mounting.
Check them out:

My .36 has a 12" barrel:

Probably be cheaper to buy a new pistol then you would have two. Joe
