Howdy,

Please take a look at this picture. What caused the metal to get cut there? It's very rectangular and as if something very regularly shaped caused it. I just noticed it last night when I was cleaning it.

I might send it back to KelTec, but I've had the thing so long I don't know if I want to pay for a repair if it's my fault.

I would definitely contact them on the slide. Something looks to have worn through from the inside.

What are we supposed to be looking at? Is that a hole in the slide?

Is that a hole in the slide?

It is indeed.

And OP, if I were you I would contact Kel-Tec and send them a picture before doing anything else with that gun. But I have no idea what could have caused it.

Yes sorry, it's the slide. A rectangular hole. It's really weird.

I'll send them the picture, good idea.

If what I read on the interwebs is accurate, Kel-Tec has excellent customer service.

Send them an email with a copy of the pic, and ask them when you can expect to receive a return authorization label.

You will ship it to them on their dime, and they will promptly send you a repaired pistol, and probably at least one free mag.

Some American companies still GET IT.

The frame rail has worn right through the slide. The slide is rather thin there and cracks are certainly not unheard of, but I've never seen one wear entirely through like that. How many rounds are through it?

The frame wore through the slide rail from the inside out.

It would surely be considered a manufacturing defect and not your fault.
The slide rail was machined too thin, simple as that.

You need to send it in for replacement before it flys clear off and hits you in the face.

Don't expect a return email. They aren't very responsive to email. Call them and explain the situation. Offer to send them a picture via email to the person on the phones email.

Bottom line, they will take care of you. They just don't do we'll with email correspondence unless it is to a specific person.

Wouldn't matter if it was. Short of obvious abuse or flat out deliberate destruction, KT takes core of their customers.

Send them an email with a photgraph, and call to confirm receipt of the email. My guess is you'll have a new slide in your hands within 5 business days of doing so. It is possible they'll want the gun back to make sure there's nothing else going on, but it seems pretty clear that the slide rail cut was just too deep. You can see that looking fore and aft of the hole.

Wow that looks like a sheet metal stamping. Can't imagine any part of a slide being that thin.

I just checked mine. It's got to have well over 1K rounds down the pipe. Nary a jam since k/t fixed the extractor. That was at least 10 years ago. Great little pistol and great customer service.

I have indeed read about a LOT of people utilizing their customer services, and they are usually happy with the service...if not for the reason they needed to use it.

After about 3500 rounds a frame rail broke off on my P3AT. I sent it back and KT immediately sent me a new pistol.

They didn't ask what kind of ammo I was using or anything else, they just sent a brand new pistol!

My advice is to call KT and talk to someone first. Then you can send the email to a specific person. They were great with the problem I had with my PF9 and replaced the barrel free of charge.
