Wow--other than the grip, it looks nearly identical to the CZ P07.

What it really looks like is a Swiss attempt to copy the Italian Tanfoglio line of polymer framed pistols. ;)

IMI makes that. It's available as either Baby Eagle or Jerico pistol.

They are built in Switzerland and is a licensed redo/improvement of CZ's original. The SDP is not a poly framed gun. Its supposed to Retail around 1500 USD.

Their first attempts failed breaking out in the american market. Not sure if this one will be vapor ware here or not.... They supposedly beat out Glock and Sig for a Government contract in some country. So that might help it more than previous attempts.

Sphinx recently changed ownership, but not much else has changed. My personal experience with their weapons is that they're all first class. (I've had a couple of their 2000 series guns.) Very well made, and in effect, semi-custom guns, with the same care in manufacture as you'd find in some of the the better custom shops. That's why they're so darned expensive.

Their early CZ-like guns were in every way superior to the CZs they were based on -- but they cost 2-4 times more, and you'd expect some major improvements for that sort of price premium.

Overpriced CZ75 clone, if you ask me.

Clone yes.

Overpriced? No.

Just curious: how many Sphinx handguns have you handled, shot, or owned?

That's the beauty of free will and democracy. I can have have an opinion of my own (and we have open internet folrums that allow us to share them).

Perhaps my opinion might change one day with more experience, but for now, that's still my opinion. ;)

Right. And I'll bet you think Wilson, Les Baer, or more expensively, Chuck Rogers, Stan Chen, or Miller Custom 1911s are also just overpriced clones of the original Colt guns.

Opinions are like that certain part of the anatomy -- everybody has one.

I handled them at SHOT and they are well built. you can think of it this way, the CZ's are like Springfield 1911's where as the Sphinx is like a Wilson Combat, Ed Brown.

Kriss USA should be importing them.
