Will Obamacare cause gun prices to rise? If so how much?

Well, it is now over a week since The Great O won another four years in office. Obamacare will now be the law of the land and from what I understand it will mean higher employee cost for most businesses with over 50 full time employees and that means most firearm manufactures.

It is a truism that businesses don't pay taxes. Either they pass the cost of the tax along to their consumers or they go out of business.

If that is true can be expect higher prices for firearms for the future because of Obamacare and if so does anyone know how much?

One must remember taxes are always passed on to the consumer by the price of the product. For example, if you tax "big oil", the tax will be passed down to "the little man" when he pays at the pump!
When Remington is mandated to pay for ObamaCare, your shells and guns go up. When your local gunshop is forced to pay more in taxes, quess who is going to pay that added expense. You are!

This thread is so full of misinformation it is amazing. The affordable care act is for individual insurance for those that do not have it and and for small employers should they choose to participate, (I.e. under 50 employees). It really affects very few people in the grand scheme and for those bitching about being a tax, we are already paying for coverage for many it will impact. It has no impact on companies with over 50 employees.

Are you aware there are two states that already have a health care exchange? One of them is MA, do you know who supported it? Romney.

No, and I am not aware of any gun shops with over 50 employees (not counting big box stores, they have insurance options).

^^^^^ explain please. I am very familiar with this and do not see how this is possible. Please educate me.

The only way I am aware ammo prices will increase is paranoid panic which has nothing to do with the affordable care act.

Personally I'm willing to pay a little more so people can have health insurance.

why single out firearm manufacturers if it impacts firearms it will impact everything else you buy unless the try to help pay for it by taxing firearms

Taxes are going up in 2013 so expect prices to follow unless there is some meeting of the minds between the Repubs and Dems. I was told 10.5% so we will see, soon.

Medical cost are already going up if there is any coverage at all in the form of a deductible; investment banker friend's went from $2500 to 6000$ this year and expects it to increase again. .

The headlines have already stated that there will be numerous layoffs or hours cut below the magic 30 hours a week by many companies; that's no secret unless one lives under a rock. Is it fear mongering and are the rumors/stories true? Guess we will have to wait and see what is really in store for 2013 and 2014 as Nancy P said.

Don't worry, be happy, just like the song.

so pay someone's health insurance yourself - the federal government has no business in this arena

===

regarding the OP, there are two core concepts wrong
1 - that's congresscare, it was written/amended/passed by congress
2 - it will probably contribute to general inflation of everything, I doubt it will have a specific impact on anything but healthcare costs (which will go up at a steep rate)

I doubt this close even needs an explanation, but politically based discussions are not useful in GGD.
