Your twist rate is 1:8. I've found it a good compromise for bullet length and weight; it has the ability to handle down in the 50s and up to the low 70s with great accuracy. That, along with Melonite coating instead of chrome, make it accurate for bench, free hand, hunting, and SD/HD where placing well aimed shots count.

A great all around rifle.

Please don't take my word for the gospel, but I think the Sport is a 1 in 8 twist. My M&P15(non Sport model) is a 1 in 9 twist. These other guys know more about the Sport than me. I have yet to own one, but have shot one extensively. The one I shot was a fine rifle, that any owner should be proud of. I am not sure if the Sport is a progressive twist or even 5R. I was thinking it was a 5R twist though.

Edit: see MrMustard to save the day..... Listen to MrMustard, he has proven his knowledge on the AR.

It does have a 1/8 on the barrel right next to the caliber. So I would guess you all are correct. I thought that is what the 1/8 meant but I was not sure.

You're correct sir.

It is 5r as well, which is super accurate, and progressive twist.
