Police say man shot
woman as they had sex
By WARREN HASTINGS
Concord Bureau

CONCORD — An Epsom man who told police he accidentally shot his girlfriend in the head while they were having sex Thursday night was arraigned yesterday on second-degree assault charges.

Keith Levesque, 25, of 333 Goboro Road told authorities he shot Sarah Pickard, 18, in his apartment, which she shares with him. She was listed in serious condition at Concord Hospital late yesterday afternoon.

Pickard had asked Levesque to hold the loaded gun to her head while they had sex, Levesque told police.

Concord District Court Judge Arthur Robbins ordered Levesque released on $50,000 personal recognizance after testimony from the state and defense counsel that Levesque had no prior criminal history.

Levesque was arrested in his third-floor apartment by Epsom police after calling 911 at about 10 p.m. to report the shooting. Police Chief Henry L. Farrin Jr., who responded to the report, said he found Levesque holding a cloth to Pickard’s head. She was on the phone, apparently talking with a 911 operator, he said.

During an interview at Concord Hospital, Pickard told New Hampshire State Police Detective Fred Lulka that she had asked Levesque to get a gun and put it to her head while they were having sexual intercourse, Farrin said in an affidavit filed in district court.

The firearm, a Ruger .357 Magnum, can hold six shells, Farrin said. Levesque told police he pulled the hammer back on the pistol and it discharged, according to the affidavit.

Levesque also told police it was the third time the two had used a firearm in this type of situation, Farrin said.

In his bail order, Robbins noted testimony that Levesque is a lifelong resident of the Concord-Epsom area and has worked as a telephone technician the past five years for AT&T. Robbins also cited Levesque’s cooperation with police.

Pickard has been living with Levesque for the last several weeks, according to Jeff Strelzin, an assistant New Hampshire attorney general.

“Although there is an allegation here of a felony-level assault with a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, the court does not believe that the defendant is either a flight risk or a continuing threat to public safety,” Robbins said in his order.

Strelzin had asked the judge to hold Levesque because of the reckless nature of the alleged crime, which occurred in a multistory apartment building.

Robbins ordered Levesque not to contact Pickard or her family and not to have any guns. A probable cause hearing will be held prior to Feb. 20, Robbins said.

Other residents of the apartment building had little to say about Levesque or Pickard. “He’s a nice kid,” said Judy Rowe, who lives in a downstairs apartment. She was unaware there had been a shooting until she saw police arrive. “A nice, happy-go-lucky guy,” she said.

Rowe said Levesque had been living in the apartment for several years. He had a male roommate, she said, and she believed Levesque’s relationship with Pickard was relatively recent, in the last three months or so. >

The building, which has at least seven apartments, is owned by John Arvanitis, whose address is listed as Wilmington, Mass. Rowe said some of the upstairs tenants had many visitors.

- At a hair salon up the road, Bette Pinto said the shooting had been a common topic of discussion yesterday, but no one seemed to know too much. “It’s a small town,” she said. “You don’t want to hear things like this.”

Union Leader Correspondent Anne Saunders contributed to this report.

Either he's a liar or that's pretty kinky sex. Either way, foul play. No thanks.

If it's kinky sex, no crime here, please move along. The girl told the police in an interview that she requested.. Yeah, he should've said no, but how many of us have had to field extremely odd and kinky requests in the heat of the moment?

I'm sure neither of them will ever do /that/ again. Nope, nothing but chainsaws from now on.

Anybody care to bet that they came up with this from watching the Soprano's? Since she lived I'm guessing the muzzle blast is what caused the injury, but I wonder where the bullet went.

I am reminded of the scene in Casablanca when Rick reminds Louis that his gun is pointed right at "your heart."
Louis replies, "That is my least vulnerable spot."

No Darwin award here. To win, you have to succeed in removing your genes from the pool. No these bright stars get to contribute and no doubt will at some point.

OK, honestly, if she asked him to do it and there was no intent to actually cause harm how can they get a conviction on him alone for anything more than discharging a firearm in city limits? Maybe recless endangerment of the other renters? Shouldn't she be charged, too? Equally idiotic, if not more so. She was the one requesting to be on the wrong end of the gun.

I just hope they were practicing safe sex(!?!?!?!). Heaven forbid they should actually spawn.

Negligent discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment are the only two things I can think of, and I believe they're both misdemeanors.

Of course, they're both guilty of felony stupidity. Sterilize them so they won't breed.
