After seeing all the nice old knives on here lately, thought I'd share one I bought off craigslist today. Nice old Pilot Survival Knife. Only bad thing is, he didn't have the sheath.

That is a pretty nice Vietnam era knife.

If you haunt eBay, you can probably pick up a correct sheath sooner or later.

Those from 1967 like yours did not have the metal point covers riveted on like the later ones do now.

BTW: That goofy color paint on the butt was once luminescence and glowed in the dark.
Probably doesn't now though.

Good to know, thank you. When I picked it up, the guy told me he had tried to open the pommel, but couldn't get it to unscrew. I'm just glad he didn't decide to try a wrench on it!

Yes!

That would not have gone well at all! :what:

As you might have noticed, the tang is firmly and permanently riveted into the butt cap.

To get them off you have to grind away enough of the peening to get down to the threaded tang.
And then weld on a new tang bolt to put it back on again and re-peen it again.
