WW2 Quarternaster/Utility sheath knife.

Since I haven't been able to lay eyes on a bayonet for the Garand that hasn't been abused, does any THR Forum member have one of these http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=685606 that is available?

It will reside happily, I hope, next to a Garand and some web gear.

If I can also find a 'beater' version, it just might replace the Old Hickory Butcher (Utility) Knife.

I get E-Mail postings daily about them on Ebaaa as well as the Case version. I tend only to buy them in person to be certain of the washer condition and seldom go to a large gun show that doesn't have a couple-three floating about.

Another thing about that auction site is the majority of Garand bayonets I see lately are Com-Chinese imports. Watch out for that if you get to looking about there.

CMP rec'd some period correct bayonets several months back. They were gone almost as soon as they hit the receiving dock.

For Todd, how are Chi-Com fakes identified from the real thing?

CMP products are the real deal or as close as I'm likely to get. The last time I was in Anniston, I was told that the 16" bayonets were long gone. Now I see them as being offered on the web store.

I did a poor job of asking, but what I was trying to ask is there is a marker on the bayonets that might signal that a fake copy is being offered as original.

Internet auctions allow for questions, but I dont know the correct questions, or to ask for specific images to be forwarded.

I have never looked at one up close & personal.

I understand the better ones are stamped correctly, right down to the manufacture, date, ordinance flaming bomb. The sheath may or may not be marked correctly.

Bayonets are a whole nother collecting field I never got too involved in, or bought the books.

But:
I would be on high alert to any M1 bayonet that just looks too good to be true, with no wear, or dirt, or scuffing of the finish or sheath.

If one looks like that, it is too good to be true.
Unless a GI stole it in WWII or Korea, and sent it home unused with his dirty underwear.

Incorrect surfaces on scales,
dark black semi gloss blades,
Price.
Inordinately new condition.
Weirdly off colored sheaths.
Incorrectly affixed pommels.
