What can anyone tell me about 2200 powder? A friend has some surplus 2200 powder and some new stuff. Seemed to work very well with some 53 and 55 grain bullets in my Winchester bolt. Wasn't it a military powder at one time? Thanks in advance

I still have some of the original left over from an 8 lb keg I bought years ago from either Powder Valley or Wideners. It works well in the .223 Rem with 55 gr bullets, good velocity and accuracy. It was surplus, but apparently enough people liked it that it is now being manufactured and sold as new. If I recall correctly, it was originally manufactured for use in the 5.45x39 and was considered to be a little on the fast side for optimal use in the .223. Probably not the best choice for heavier than 55 gr bullets. I have since gone with Ramshot TAC for the 40 to 50 gr bullets in the .223 and Varget for the 55 gr and up.

It is a little on the fast side for .223, but can be used. It was dirt cheap back when it was sold as surplus.

I use AA-2200 in 223, 7.62x39 and in the 6.8mm SPC. In the 6.8mm it gives the best velocities possible. I have not tried it in the 6.5 Grendel yet, but it should work just fine.

I bought about 40# of the AA2200 data powder way back when I got it for $48 for 8# jug, shipped. Just ran out of it recently. I've used it for .223 reloading up to and including 69 grains with excellent results. I'm using 844 now.

I did a search and found this thread on the 2200. I read the note from Accurate regarding semi auto rifles. Has anyone here loaded any 2200 in 7.62x39 and shot it out of an AK 47? Did it cycle ok or did you have issues?

Have some of the old stuff from Widener's from when Clinton was prez. Load in .223 55gr and 62 gr, 7.62x39 - no probs, and .308. Great powder for above listed semi-autos (yeah I know there are better powders for specific applications) but this one has done it all for me over 15 years.

Just loaded more .223 tonight with that Clinton era powder - still shoots great. Glad they are producing it once again.

It is a very accurate powder for my .223 bolt behind a 40 grain vmax. Seems to work well with lighter bullets in .223.
