Simple carbine with tech sights and a GI sling.

I changed it up a couple of days ago. I cut the factory scope base in half and mounted the front half on the receiver. Then I mounted my primary arms reflex sight on the half base. It mounts/detaches quickly with its thumbscrew. I Put a few hundred rounds through it in that configuration yesterday and it works well and the reflex sight retains zero when removing and reinstalling. I prefer the tech sights for accuracy, but the reflex is fast.

Here's one I built from a Nodak receiver with an R/T accurized bolt, KID 2-stage trigger, 21.5" Clark mid-weight barrel, Boyd's tacticool stock, Tech Sights front sight in a Marbles base, Nodak rear sight with Tech Sights T200 module. In LTR mode with iron sights.

As a long range rig with a Bushnell Elite 10x in this shot.

Here's my "tactical" that I built for midnight pest control. I flipped a VQ extended base backwards and machined it for clearance over the Tech Sights rear sight. T/S front has an 0.080" XS white stripe post. Drilled & tapped five extra holes to secure it and the rear sight. It currently wears a Vortex red/green Strikefire. There's a VQ hammer, PC bolt release, mag release and Superior Concepts bolt knob. The stock is a Tapco T6 with an extra forend rail, Magpul CTR and VFG. Sling is a V-TAC and light is a Surefire M4. I also finished it in Brownells' olive drab Aluma-Hyde II, which turned out beautifully and is holding up very well. It does everything I need it to and nothing I don't.

I put one together for Dad last Christmas. It's a little simpler and began with a Ruger 10/22FS with the factory installed birdcage. Tapco T6, Tangodown foregrip, Primary Arms red dot, V-TAC sling and I also put a little Maglite XL50 on it. Shown with the rifle above with its original Tacstar T9.

Here's one of mine:

Modified factory stock- I added 2-inches to LOP, 1-inch to grip, and 1/2-inch to riser, flip flop butt pad, pillared and bedded, finished with bedliner. Green Mountain tapered fluted barrel, tuned bolt (by Que), Tech Sights, Kidd S.S. trigger and charging handle/rod.

November 25, 2012, 01:28 PM
Here's a couple of old pictures of mine, nowadays it has a silver scope to match the stainless receiver.
Modified target stock, 2Żlb trigger, hand lapped OEM barrel, Caldwell composite bipod, fully suppressed and buffered. 1MOA accurate up to about 75 yards and it's whisper-quiet. Not exactly tacticool nor does it have many aftermarket parts, but nearly everything that's in it has been modified, polished and tweaked. And I love it.

November 25, 2012, 01:34 PM
Very very nice! Want to get one of my own soon! Keep' em coming!

November 25, 2012, 02:33 PM
Of the half dozen or so 10/22's I've owned I guess my favorite is this old job with laminated stock, Shilen barrel and Kahles 2-7X RF scope in Talley rings. It shoots reasonably well too.

November 25, 2012, 05:11 PM
The stock is a Hogue with a Cabelas barrrel. Everything else is factory.

Shoots pretty good too

Yeah, I think I might keep that one! ;)

Not finished yet, but lots of fun. My wife has decided she wants one in pink...

VQ hammer, mag release, bolt release, and extractor.
BSA 3-9x40mm sweet .22 scope
Superior Concepts bolt handle.

November 25, 2012, 10:37 PM

that is a thread from 2006. i was still hacked off at ruger back then over the gun ban stuff, so that project was basically to build a 10/22 without a single ruger part in it, for my daughter.

My beater/plinker 10/22

November 26, 2012, 12:21 AM
Slightly warmed over trigger group. 2.5X Tasco scope.

November 26, 2012, 12:28 AM
Lots of custom parts. More than I can remember. Shoots lights out though. I bought the Boyds Tacticool stock unfinshed, mixed the stain and finished with tung oil.
I have since stripped and polished the receiver but my camera broke before I could show off my work.

November 26, 2012, 12:36 AM
That mag pouch on the stock is slick! Well done!

I know this isn't a true 'custom', as it as a Ruger factory option.. still it's a neat set up. Ruger 10/22T twisted hammer forged stainless barrel, Tasco 6-24x target scope.

November 26, 2012, 07:33 AM
Here's mine.

10/22 CRR with Weaver 2x7 scope in Leupold mounts, Kidd trigger and homemade leather mag pouch for two xtra mags.

Nice work! Very clean, I really like it.

There have been some killer sales on the take down model in my AO, need to go brave the crowds and get one. Like I need another 10/22.

International Model.

A project from about 2004, GM barrel, Fagen stock Mueller APV in Talley rings and the rest is modified oem.

Krinker kit in mall ninja dress.

November 26, 2012, 08:56 AM
I just got bored with the wood stock. Oh well, ii's never going to go anywhere so I played with it a bit.

November 26, 2012, 09:30 AM
Lets see yours. I'm workin on it! :)

November 26, 2012, 09:50 AM
My super tacticool highly modified 10/22: :)

Man a lot of customs on this thread and I like them all. Here is mine. Customized by MaddMacs' Precision Tactical. My first true Tac Driver! That one pic is an entire magazine, 9 rounds one hole, one flyer. Boyd's Tacticool Stock, ER Shaw barrel, Barska scope, Weaver mounts, Tactical Solutions rail. Action, bolt and trigger by Maddmacs'. Compensator is Maddmacs' latest and greatest.

February 18, 2013, 12:01 PM
Golly Ludlow! That thing is really nice!

40 yards with cheap federal ammo.

February 20, 2013, 09:26 PM
Lots of really sweet 1022' here. This is mine but it won't be complete untill the Sparrow II suppressor arrives for it.

February 20, 2013, 09:51 PM
I decided to go tacticool on this one. Butler Creek stock on my 1988 vintage 10-22 with a Mitchell 50 round magazine I have had since the mid '80's.

February 20, 2013, 09:59 PM
Savanahsdad: how did you finish the receiver? Did you put a clear coat on it? or does the aluminum not need anything? Do you have better close of pics?

February 21, 2013, 12:29 AM
New to me, actually to my wife. This was her pick from a collector that passed away. His wife is slowly selling out his collection.

February 21, 2013, 06:18 AM

GM heavy Sporter barrel, Richard's Microfit stock, Volquartsen sear and hammer. ( (

February 21, 2013, 04:43 PM
Savanahsdad: how did you finish the receiver? Did you put a clear coat on it? or does the aluminum not need anything? Do you have better close of pics?
no clear coat needed , I wet sanded every thing I could get at by hand, then with a Dremel tool I use lapping compound, to remove the rest of the black finish, then ground the trigger gaurd down, , upgraded springs, and buffer, reworked factory hammer and trigger , trigger pull is at 3.5lbs, with almost no creap, then many hours of buffing with high speed buffing wheel and dremel tool,

NOTE: The untouched 10/22 is alsol from 1972 ser#111-608xxx it's just a bit older , not bad for a 41 year old Ruger , and still shoots like new !

February 21, 2013, 04:55 PM
Out of all the ones I have I shoot this one the most.

February 21, 2013, 05:27 PM

February 21, 2013, 06:15 PM
Fagen Stock, Midway/Clark barrel, polished factory trigger

February 21, 2013, 08:57 PM
Had this one for about 30 years and except for the scope it remains as issued. Never felt the need for doodads and such.

Besides, it seems to shoot OK as is... Two 5 round groups at 50 yards rapid fire.

February 21, 2013, 10:09 PM
Ruger USA Shooting Team Stock

February 22, 2013, 10:24 AM
Never felt the need for doodads and such.
If I had a stock carbine that shot like that, I wouldn't change anything either. Most folks have to install a new barrel to get accuracy like that. Most of these guns don't shoot that well.

February 22, 2013, 10:08 PM
I'm workin on it! :)
still working on it ???

February 22, 2013, 11:18 PM
A couple working 10-22s in the Alaskan bush, a long long way from civilization.

February 23, 2013, 07:38 AM
still working on it ???

Well, it's like this: I am going to an auctioneering course at Harrisburg Area Community College, and that cost money and lots of it. Soooo, yea I guess I am.

A couple working 10-22s in the Alaskan bush, a long long way from civilization. That poor '94! :*(

goldie, that is a GORGEOUS rifle!!

February 24, 2013, 03:18 PM
It would be a crime to customize this any more than it already is. Williams sights is all.

February 24, 2013, 05:05 PM

This is my beloved 1984 Ruger 10/22. It was my first firearm, purchased from a pawn shop in Seattle the day after my 18th birthday for $60, in 1987. All the 10/22s I'd seen to that point had either dark stained stocks or had been tacticooled out with a bunch of plastic crap and I wanted something different. I went looking specifically for a rifle whose barrel and receiver were in good shape with a beat up stock I could refinish - to save money. You can't really tell in the pic but I re-shaped the stock a bit while sanding the dents out and rounded off all the edges. Then I bedded the barrel into the stock using a kit from Gander Mountain followed by about ten coats of Tru-Oil. I re-shaped and polished the trigger, de-burred and smoothed every moving part, and mounted a Bushnell 2.5-10x scope. I installed a Ram-Line extended mag release and a stainless butt plate, it's otherwise 100% original parts. I did this in the weeks following it's purchase and have never had reason to modify it further. I don't know how many tens of thousands of rounds have been through it but it still shoots groups the size of a dime at 50 yards with decent ammo. :)

February 24, 2013, 08:01 PM
goldie, that is a GORGEOUS rifle!!

Agreed. It just needs lower scope rings. :D

February 24, 2013, 08:32 PM
I am another one of those people who leaves off the tacticool stuff. The background pictured rifle is the 10/22. Not sure why the scope was off when I took the picture. :) Just a plain Jane rifle that shoots just fine.

February 24, 2013, 10:04 PM
This is from too much hanging out at rimfirecentral.
What started out as a stock 10/22, purchased around 1975, that I had intended to only accurize a bit. When finished there were no Ruger parts left. I had even replaced the receiver with a VQ SuperLite as after buying all the internal VQ parts I decided they deserved a tighter home than the original Ruger receiver.

Volquartsen SuperLite receiver
Green Mtn. 20" Match barrel
Fajen stock w/ VQ bedding kit
Volquartsen TG2000 trigger group
Volquartsen Machined bolt
Volquartsen Buffer
Volquartsen Compensator
Mueller 8.5-25x44 scope
Warne Maxima QT rings

Here you go - Custom 10/22

Gunner, what size groups do you get at 100 yards? Very nice rifle.
