I just got a Pietta '58 SS target that is gonna be a trade iffin she shoots.
She's got some 'staining' in 'er bore ( other'nat, she's cherry :D), so i wanna see how she does on paper before i close the deal.
I don't have time to 'play' with loads so i'm askin iffin anyone's got one that they have established a load for that i can use in this gun to try 'er out ?
'preciate it.

Pietta states 22 grns is the load to try, but I've heard anywhere from 25-35 grns of 3F ought to give good results.

Id keep em down around 25, ive found the hotter your loads get the less consistent they are, not sayin you cant shoot more.....;)

I like 30 grains FFF Pyrodex Select under a 180grn conical or .454 round ball and Winchester #11 Magnum percussion caps.

30 grains of 3F and .454 ball over a gatefoe lubed.480 wad is my favorite in my 5 1/2" '58. 0 to 50 yards is right on POA.:)

Mine, too. :D Only thing I do different is use corn meal filler. Oh, yeah, I use pyrodex 30 grain equiv. That's kinda different, I guess.

30 grains of Pyro P under a lubed wad and .454 RB out of my Target Pietta is more accurate than my .44 Magnum with handloads. Using #10 Remington caps. Superb accuracy at 25 yards.

ive done 30gr FFFg thru my 1858 but found its pretty much a waste of powder, but pretty spectacular visually.

around 20-25gr FFFg or even FFg will bring nice accuracy, bit of filler if you want and some over ball lube and youre set.

Thanx everyone for yer input.
All i have is Goex, RB's and lubed Oxy Yoke's.
I'll give 'er a try with 20-25 grains.

I should have added to my OP that this gun is the 8" target model.
Sorry for that lack o' info.

Hey Jim how ya doing? I've shot a brace of Pietta 58 Remingtons in .44, while shooting CAS for years, I used 27 grns of 3F Goex, under a Wonder Wad, and a handcast .454 ball, using a Remington #10 cap, I've got a lot of 1st and 2nd place trophy's to show for it. BTW did ya get that BP pistol for mama yet?:D

Mornin noose.
Doin jist peachy :D

I'll give yer recipe a go.
This bore got what looks my like stain more than pitting so i'm pretty sure she'll shoot. It's a real purty 8" stainless with an extra cylinder. I'm swappin some metal detector parts for it.

I'm gonna order mamas' pistola next week.Them folks that sell stuff are odd 'bout wantin money fer thier stuff. Jeeesh.
