That's like saying I have a yellow '72 Camaro. What's it worth?

What kind of condition is the gun in? Is the finish original? Are the grips made by Colt? Any after-market parts? Got a photo?

We need a lot more info for even a guess.

Take it to a gunstore, gunshow, or local guy who can do a hands on inspection, to make sure it isn't altered, reblued, has genuine ivory, etc, to determine condition and estimated value to a collector. Even with detailed pictures, we could get it wrong.

See told you I have no gun knowledge! Everything is original, hardly used, no box. My dad is ill and I am his daughter and trying to get rid of his guns. I was afraid to go into a gun store without any info at all on the gun and getting ripped off. I search google and I can't find anything close on this gun his others were easy to find. I will try to get a picture up soon. Thanks

When you post the pictures be sure to post left and right hand sides as well as the back of the grip.

I advise taking the pics using a stable mount for the camera outside in indirect light with the camera set on timer and the flash off and with the camera close enough to not need zoom.

This is the best I can do as far as pictures. Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me. I am so very thankful. I might be able to post more later.

O.K.

The grips are aftermarket plastic, not ivory.

The rest of the gun appears to be in 90% condition or better.

It should be worth 3 figures easily, even more if you can find the original brown plastic Coltwood grips, and box & paperwork.

As it sets without the original grips, box, or papers?

Maybe $1,500 - $2,000 tops, if you can find the right person looking for one.

Of course a dealer will tell you it is worthless, and offer you $250 for it!.

Ask relatives or friends (maybe your father if possible) for the name of a gun dealer they buy from and trust. Then, unless you are in a big hurry, ask the dealer about a consignment sale. That is where you and he agree on an asking price, he puts the gun out at that price, then takes a cut (usually 15% or so) of the sale price. The trouble is that the item might not sell for a while (I think that one would sell quickly in spite of the grips) and you won't get cash until it does.

I think that a pair of vintage Colt grips will be a good investment to improve sellability and value.

Thank you all. You have inspired my husband and I to signed up for gun safety lessons at our local range. I am now a proud owner of my dads small collection. Please take time to tell your loved ones all about your collection before it is too late.

Were post-war commercial hammers blued on the side or bare metal like the 70 series? I wonder if it is a GI parts swap?

put those crazy grips on ebay and put a set of walnuts on that gun and it will increase the value.
