How far out are you SPS owners shooting and about what MOA accuracy can I expect from this? Thanks...

Will depend largely on caliber and ammunition used...

And the glass on top, not to mention the stock. Varmint or tactical? One has a pillar bed stock, the other doesn't. My 223 sps tactical shot 1moa (2") AT 200yds a few weeks ago. But my new 308 sps varmint with the cheap stock and the chinese scope it came with only printed 1" at 50 yds. Good scope, stock improvements, decent ammo. under 1moa should be plenty easy enough.

Sorry....308... Lets say factory loads... Perhaps some factory precision loads. I can't get into hand loading right now. I have a NF 2.5-22x56 I think I will throw on it for now. Think 800-1000 yards is out for this model 700?

I don't own a 308, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting to 1000yd with 175gr FGMM or similar ammunition...especially with a Nightforce and 20MOA base.

My varmint has a cheap-o stock that is neither pillar bedded, or free floated. If this is the one you have, some stock work, or a change of stock would be a major improvement.

Mopar, I have an SPS Tactical I shoot out to 800yards. I have no doubt that it will shoot farther. This is the 20" 1 in 10 twist barrel to boot. You will be fine, just do your math and your 1000 yard goal should be easy to achieve.

It will shoot quite far. However, change the stock and trigger and it will shoot far accurately.

I have a 700 SPS Varmint in .308 and here is how it shoots at 200 yards with a varying crosswind.

http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g335/ddirks22/5shotgroups200yards.jpg

It has also posted 3-shot groups sub .25 MOA at 200 yards.

The furthest I have pushed the gun is to 500 yards and it was still shooting MOA and better.

The stock is the biggest problem. Some people don't like the X-Mark Pro trigger, but mine breaks cleanly and consistently at about 2.35 lbs with no take up or over travel.

The gun will do 1,000.....but if you have the money for the Nightforce....then I would find a better rifle to be honest.....

My best group was shot with hand loads about six weeks ago. I had bullets touching bullets at two hundred yards. The trigger is set to 3.2 lbs. I have a Luepold rifleman 3x9. I was throwing 168 grain bthp. The other groups varied by about an inch, but the day had harsh winds. I think under most shooting conditions with either high quality factory or well crafted handloads I could count on groups being within an inch at two hundred yards. It could be me, my shooting, but the gun seems to decline after its 2nd shot. Not enough to matter for anything other than tight target shooting. Also, I found six power works best for two hundred yard grouping, but thats just me. BTW, great purchase, I love my 700 sps.

In that case buy the Remington and order a good stock and trigger. Then you will have something.

It will do 1,000.....but it won't do it as well as a better rifle will

I have one in 7mm RM with a 2 lb. trigger and it has shot one ragged hole at 200 yds. Not usually with me lately though, as I am not that good these days, visually speaking. Leupld VX-III 3x9 with my hand hand loads.

I already have the NF scope... So, under $1000, what rifle would you guys shoot then? Some naysayers of the 700 sps?

Remington 5R would get my vote....

But what is this rifle going to be used for?

1000 yard and less fun and competition.

Then yes, I would recommend the 5R or a Savage Model 10 variant.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but, it would seem to me, that the rifle's model means very little in terms of "how far it'll shoot". Technique, skill level, caliber, ammo, etc etc etc all play an equally, if not more, important role than the model of the rifle used. A model 700 SPS in .308 may or may not shoot better than a "Brand X" rifle in .308..... there are simple too many variables to adequately answer your question with any reasonable degree of accuracy
