APEX trigger install

I'm not a gunsmith but I'm good with tools and otherwise mechanically inclined.

Should I try and install the APEX Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK) for the S&W M&P pistol myself or have a gunsmith do it?

You can manage it yourself: go to Youtube and the vids are there for instructionals.

Which one did you buy, and for which M&P?

Haven't bought any yet. Plan on the duty/carry one for the M&P full-size 9mm

Easy to do, the only think you might have issues with is removing the rear sight. You'll might need to adjust the "candy cane" loop that contacts the new sear to get the gun to operate properly. Lastly you might want to bend the trigger bar to improve reset.

Quack has it pretty much nailed down. Well worth doing as it give you a much better understanding of how the action operates...and might go back in later to polish a bit more.

I'm not very handy and was able to get it done 1) at a range, 2) without the correct tools, 3) without WiFi, but I did have an extra pair of hands. I only dropped some parts in the dirt a couple of times, was able to find all the springs that flew out, only had to re-assemble a couple of times and only had one part left over when I was done.

The rear sight can be a handful. Some just slip out when you loosen the set screw, others need a bit of wacking

Contrary to what the Glockophiles will tell you the M&P is pretty easy to take apart and work on too. I've had mine apart twice. Once to install a heavier trigger return spring and once for the APEX RAM. It was pretty easy. I would think you could manage it.

Didn't know I'd have to remove the rear sight as well. I don't currently have a work shop or bench vise. Might have to give a pass.

Also...plan on getting trijicon HD sights (most likely) installed. So may get both done at the same time.

You only need to take the sight off to install the striker block. Get the kit and install what you can, or just get the sear..

If you can follow directions, do it yourself.

There aren't really any springs under tensions that will "fly all over" when working on the M&P. There are, however, a couple very small parts and springs that make it a little challenging. Its really not that hard though.
