I've narrowed my scope choices for a newly acquired Savage Model 11 FCNS chambered in .308 Win. to either a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 with BDC reticle or a Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40 with DOA reticle. Both scopes are in the price range that I can currently afford and have been recommended by folks who own one or the other. Anyone have any suggestions as to which scope may work best and which rings, bases, etc. I should purchase?

If you have a local Bass Pro or Gander Mountain go have a look see on those scopes. Some time there are slight differences that spike your interest. Plus, you can compare other scopes. Nothing like seeing them in the flesh.

Have done that part already, and these are the two that I feel most comfortable with...just wondering if anyone else has experience with these particular scopes and had any insights into which one may be better?

Ended up with a Redfield Revolution 4x12 with AccuRange...sighted in perfectly and can't say enough about the scope!

I've got 3 Nikon Buckmasters and one Bushnell Trophy series.
Both have served me well. The Bushnell is on my model 7 Rem in .243. The others are mounted on a 7mm=08, .270 & '06. I do prefer the Buckmaster.

My Buckmaster 3x9x40 with BDC reticle should be in today or tomorrow for my Hog Hunter .308

I had the same scope and the glass was crystal clear and I couldnt tell the difference between it and its more expensive Leupold cousins. My only gripe is the scar between my eyes due to lack of rubber ring. I should have known better mounting it on a magnum bolt gun. Awesome scope , enjoy

So far I have been very impressed with the Revolution's clarity and quality...after 100+ rounds with a variety of ammo, it's still holding zero and the accu-range helps out a lot on long shots. Looking forward to seeing how well and how long it holds up.
