Does anyone make a 16" modular handguard or the AR platform?

The closest one I can find is the 15" Troy Alpha rail. I like the look when a barrel is the same length as the hand-guard, but I don't want a 200$ tax stamp and waiting period for my AR build.

JP Enterprises makes a 15.5"... but I've yet to see a 16" or longer, other than custom made. I made a 20" one over a 16" barrel about 25 years ago, back when I had a lathe... just 'cause I thought it'd look cool. It was kinda sorta like a giant flash hider. :p

Samson Manufacturing makes a 12.37" model along with a 4" extension. The extension is meant to attach to the shorter rails with the top rail cutouts. The top cutout is meant to go around an A2 sight post or gas piston system, but the extension will attach to any of there evo rails. Including the 15" model.

The JP enterprises hand guard is about what I am looking for but I would like a permanently attached 12 o'clock rail so my sights can't get bumped off if it drop it or what not. If I wanted to build a 3 gun rifle that would be perfect. Thank guys.

I believe the noveske nsr will be coming out in a 16.3 inch variant pretty soon according to their website.

Do a pinned 14.5" barrel with your 15" hand guard. Or assemble as a pistol until your stamp comes back. That's what I did.

My lower is a DSA ZM4 with PSA MOE LPK and a DSA carbine tube that I milled the stock protrusion of off.

7.5" franken upper; WMD NiBX upper, Bull Dog barrel, Troy gas block, DPMS ring & nut, Magpul MOE hand guard, Noveske KX3 flash supressor, Daniel Defense M16 BCG (obviously bottom gun):

If noveske comes out with a 16.3 nsr that would be perfect. I was thinking about doing a 14.5 with a surefire muzzle break, but I want a 16" barrel so I can use suppressors that are not qd.

Wait, you want to run a supressor, but you have a beef with the tax and wait time for SBR? You do understand that supressors are also NFA, and require the same $200 and ~6 month wait, right? (plus, unless you have a really swell and not-too-business-savvy SOT, you have to pay for the suppressor up front before filing the Form 4)

Yes I do understand that Suppressors require a $200 tax stamp, and are a NFA Item. Suppressors also work somewhat better on a 16'' barrel (And last longer) than a SBR. Also I want to hunt with it and I need to make accurate shots out to 250yrds at least (I can use .223 and a can in my state to hunt). I have the manufacturer of the suppressor I am looking at is in my town and going through the manufacturer will be quicker than going through a distributor. Maybe down the road (If there is no assault weapon ban in the near future) I will build a sbr, but I have no practical use for one at the moment other than a fun gun.

Also MachIVshooter how does that Noveske KX3 and the Troy Ind. Claymore muzzle break work?

Both direct blast forward, the KX3 also changes the signature a bit. The KX3 was specifically designed for short tubes.

From behind the rifle, the noise reduction to the shooter is about the same with either. As you start to move out to the side, I think the KX3 does a better job of keeping noise down range. Of course, it's also twice the size and twice the price. They look rather silly on guns with exposed barrel, too.

My original intention was the KX3 on an 11" barrel, with the UTG handguard and then hogging out the front to accomodate the KX3's diameter (rails would have remained 13", but would be missing the support between them for the last two inches). Well, DSA kept dragging thier feet with my 11" upper, so I scrounged all the parts for the 7.5" locally and put it together, still planning to use the quad rail on the 11" when it showed. Weeks later, I called DSA again, they said another 3-4 weeks (yeah right), so I began keeping an eye open for another 11"-ish upper. I found this BCM at the Tanner gun show for a smokin' price, so I grabbed it. In the interim, I had put a Claymore on my Armalite M15A2 carbine and really liked it, so I went that route with the BCM 12.5. I think it came out looking pretty good.

I'll probably still do a 10.5 or 11", but since I now have a 7.5 and 12.5 5.56 upper, the next one will likely be .300 Blk.

Suppressors also work somewhat better on a 16'' barrel (And last longer)

Depends on the supressor and the load. Take the .300 Blk; It was specifically designed for optimal performance in suppressed SBRs.

I was wondering if the KX3 did quiet it a bit, thanks for clearing that up for me. I really like the .300 Blackout round. Now they are starting to make it more common so since it is SAMI spec. and more companies are making factory loads. I have seen the .300 Blk Handi-Rifle they made with a suppressor and some subsonics and it is super quiet. It's to pricey for me at the moment (Even though I reload.), hopefully when it gets more prevalent it will get cheaper.
