Sunday Go To Meeting knives

December 6, 2012, 12:15 PM
So what do you carry to church? Assuming you go. What do you carry when you dress up and don't think that big honking sheath knife or uglly pocket clip would be welcome?

I carry the little gimmie Buck lock back as my main Sunday go to meeting knife as it drops right into ahidden watch pocket in my suit and is "just not there". Still allows one hand opening for one handed chores, but not as fast as the big pocket clip knives.

The Mother of Pearl is my left pocket knife that I pull out if someone at church or the business party asks for a knife or "something to cut this thread with.

The Chinese SAK ripp off (POJ) is a substitute for the Mother of Pearl as is the Chinese Ducks unLimited three bladed slip joint.

The two bladed BEAR (made in USA) is preffered over the CHinese stuff, but sometimes I forget where I set it down last Sunday, especially if I m already fired up over missplacing the Mother of Pearl.

Any others want to jump in?

I usually take one of my nicer Cases, but this is what I call my "tuxedo knife"! :D

Ultra-violet smooth bone, raindrop damascus... it's purty!

^^^ That's sweet...a little too purdy for my liking, but nice for the knife shelf!

Thanks for the idea. I usually just stick my Kershaw Chive with a belt clip into my pocket. After reading your post I told my wife, "I need a knife for church" she just rolled her eyes and said "this is not a function that could be performed by any your other pocket knives or your hunting knives or your camping knives or your work knives or your key ring knives or your toolbox knives or your fishing knives is it?" I grinned back at her and said, "Nope, everything has somewhere it belongs. I need something fancier that belongs in church." She rolled her eyes and said "I'm not sure you really belong in church, but they've always let you in!"

Attached to my truck key is a tiny little Buck folder that I bought while deployed in Kosovo. While in a worship service at church, it's all I have.

I'm there a lot outside of actual worship services, and then it's a half serrated Kershaw Leek with the clip reversed to carry tip up on my weak side front pocket.

If I was going someplace where I needed to dress nicely, and wanted a capable but smaller knife, something like this Salsa would do the trick.

Case Slimline Trapper or a #6 Opinel !

I had someone at church recently notice my pocket clip (never happened before). When he found out it was a Spyderco he started rattling off the Spydies he has.

I don't blink at taking a knife to church.

WHen it is not a suit wearing occassion I do carry other knives to church.

Oddly for three years almost all the missionaries that have been at my ward have had some type of clip on type. All of these young men have been from rural areas and a couple of times when others had overheard me talking to them about pocket knives and commented on the appropriateness of missionaries with knives these farm and small town boys have stared at the interpopers like they were suggesting they mount their bikes for traveling without pants.

I really think only two had any thoughts about the possibility that their clip ons were a weapon. One was a policeman four years before he took a mission and the other was an Infantry Vet of the recent SWA games before he took the calling.

I am an acolyte (sometimes) and I always carry this when about and not working or out in the bush

but if I have something in a pants pocket or a suit jacket it would be this Emerson Persian

I sometimes carry this little knife, it literally disappears in my pocket. While not large enough for serious work, it can handle the more mundane tasks quite well.

The one thing about this knife is the bolsters don't seem like the right style for a 2005 knife, most of the pictures of 2000's knives don't have the square edges on the bolsters. Compare the bolsters to this knife

I sometimes carry a sodbuster jr, while not as fancy it is functional or I have a black Case Trapper, or a CRKT Lake Series Laredo that is actually autographed by the the designer Ron Lake who lives near Eugene, Oregon
Although this thread has me thinking I need a fancier knife for Dressier occasions. :)

I've got a cute little Case Peanut with mother-of-pearl scales that I use as my "genteman's" knife.

I carry the same SAK on Sunday as I do any other day. But if I am wearing a suit, I tend to carry a flatter knife such as a SOG Twitch II or SOG Access Card 2.0. Seldom a day goes by that I don't use a knife. If it is not in my pocket, I feel like something is missing.

Am I the only one who still carries my Swiss Army Victorinox? Every day it's in my pocket, Sunday too.

For dress up occasions (church or otherwise) my first choice is an Al Mar Eagle (the lightweigt model with a very slim profile). Although it has a clip (like my Benchmade) I've learned the hard way not to use it, preferring instead an inside the pocket carry. I lost the first Eagle while doing a long run back towards the west coast of the 'Glades. When I got where I was going, killed the motor, and set up to fish that blade was just gone....

I've considered the Eagle my "dress up knife" since it's rarely used and looks in new condition in spite of being carried... occasionally.

I carry what I carry during the week, either a custom 4" fixed or a Buck Vantage Pro. I see no reason to not carry at church, it is basically an extention of my home.

Here's mine....I call it my dress-up knife....modded Case Sodbuster.

December 10, 2012, 11:51 AM
My only "dress up" knife is my little Kershaw 1615, the Onion/Centofante design:

Cute little thing; assisted opening and all.

I only go to church for weddings and funerals.....

Without knowing if you meet an exemption, you should know that concealing a fixed blade of any length is a felony in California.
The average person attending church or other formal occasion would be in felony possession of a dirk/dagger with that hanging concealed within a shirt or jacket.

Spyderco Endura for me.

Ruger LCP and Glock 19 for carry guns at church.

Can't imagine the monster who would feel up somebody serving at a church, hope they bring a team.:neener:
Regarding the whole concealing under your T shirt a necker in ****: don't go to events with it or courts ect. or schools ect. and it has all been good for me for 67 years as I keep my nose clean and am very mellow.:D
