H4350 Compressed Load in 30-06?

I starting to reload for my Remington 760 Pump Action Rifle, chambered in 30-06. I decided to start with 165gr BTSP interlock bullets with an OAL of 2.235, this is 0.030 off the lands. I am working up from 54.1gr to 58.8gr increasing the charge weight by 1% at a time. At 58.3grains of H4350 the powder column is just touching the bottom of the seated bullet so 58.8gr whould most likely slightly compress the powder.

My manuals do not call for a compressed load of H4350 @ 59gr, which is max. The OAL used in the manual is 3.300, longer than I can load this bullet for my rifle. Is is safe to slightly compress the H4350 in the 30-06 case or should I just stop at 58.3gr and use this as my max load to test?

Lyman #49 shows 57.0 is a Max compressed charge with IMR-4350 and a 165 Nosler Ballistic-Tip.

Hodgdon shows 60.0 grains is a Max compressed charge with a 165 Sierra SPBT.

I would not worry about compressing 58.8 a little if thats what you gotta do and you get no flattened primers on the way up to it.

I am using H4350 not IMR-4350 but they are pretty close, the Hodgon manual list IMR at about 1 grain higher than the H4350. I just wasn't sure about compressing a smokeless powder.

I loaded up 3 rounds as my max load, if I see pressure signs prior to these I will just pull them.

My mistake.

I thought sure I read IMR-4350.

I need to get my glasses checked!

I run compressed loads up to 114% of RL-22 in 06, never tried it with H4350 though.

2.235 is well within the cannelure and is exactly 0.03 off the lands, which I thought would be a good starting point for OAL.

I think you might want to re-zero your measuring device and measure that again.

2.235" is about 1/4" inch shorter then the 30-06 case without a bullet in it.

I like the 165/168gr bullet in the 30-06 best and I use almost nothing but H4350.

Don't worry about compression in the 30-06 with 4350 and you probably will find as I did you will stop adding powder before you compress the load anyway. In my rifles using a 165gr Sierra bullet I charge 58.0gr H4350 or 57.0gr IMR4350.

One of my 30-06 target loads with a 168 grain with 55.0 grains H4350. That went fast enough for me.
