Yesterdays vote identified some allies from the democratic party. Let us not forget these are friends and it is our interest to support them. The list from the voting record is:
Miller (D-GA), Nay
Landrieu (D-LA), Nay
Baucus (D-MT), Nay
Nelson (D-NE), Nay
Reid (D-NV), Nay
Feingold (D-WI), Nay

This vote is about the assault weapons ban amendment, I presume.
For some reason GOA still gives all these guys "F" grades, except Miller who is not rated. Kind of makes me think they've just got something against Democrats regardless of their stance on guns...

I can explain Feingold's (D-WI) vote.
- He is up for election this year, and has been making anti-AWB renewal noises for a few months now.
- He is worried that former WI Gov. Thompson will quit Bush's cabinet as Sec. of Health and Human Svcs. and run for his seat.
- He is well aware how close we came to CCW in WI by only one vote on the veto override, and that the pro-RKBA voting base will be out for blood this November in state elections, and it may spill onto him, knowing that Democrats are seen as the nominally anti-gun party.
However cynical his reasons for being on "our side" are, I can't decide if I should hold my nose, reward him with my vote, and try to place a stake in "Making RKBA a bi-partisan issue" blah, blah, blah. I have to remember this is the guy who sponsored "Campaign Finance Reform" which effectively muzzled the NRA.

Just looked at the GOA ratings, no real explaination of how that got those numbers. I do find it strange that Larry Craig of Idaho gets a "B" and Orrin Hatch from Utah gets a "C-". In comparassion to John McCain of Arizonia who sold us out and is the equivilent of nuclear waste in my book, he rates a C-.
Gregg of NH also voted yea on the ban and he is rated C-.
I would be interested in how that arrived at these rating numbers.

Landrieu has historically been anti-gun, thus her "F" rating from GOA and NRA. This "nay" vote from her surprised me, even though I had been sending her e-mails to pass a clean bill, I didn't expect her to be on our side. I still would not trust her.

The grades are based on their voting records, not on party affiliations.

Zell Miller has no record because he is a first term Senator. This was essentially his first gun vote.

Maybe its some deeper scheme. They were told to infiltrate the ranks of the RKBA senators, to ensure their reelection, then they can vote how they really want, when new bills are before the sennate. It would be interesting to know when they placed their votes and if they are up for reelection against a beatable republican. As an asside I do thing Miller probably is a good guy.
