Ok, so this has probably been hashed over before... if it has, pardon my ignorance.

I'm not exactly thrilled with the selection of multi-barrel (exchangeable) barreled firearms that I've been able to locate.

If one were to start with a heavy duty break action firing mechanism- say for a 45-70, what would it cost per barrel to make additional barrel chamberings ?

Has any gunsmith hereabouts ever started such a project ?

My main reservation on current designs is that they seem to be fairly restricted in terms of rifle chamberings, are all offered in synthetic based designs, and have few if any rifle length barrels for pistol cartridges.

In a nutshell, I'm envisioning a single break action firing mechanism with as many interchangeable caliber variations as is possible, utilizing a wood body.

While some may not see the wisdom or purpose of this, I for one, do !

Sounds like a Thompson- Center Encore or Contender G2.

More extra barrels:

Yep, and they have some significant impediments- as I attested to.

Let me go back in there this year and see if its any different.......

Thanks for putting all of the links in one place, I appreciate it.

It looks like the caliber selection is getting better year after year, which is good..... and it does answer the pricing question.

Is it really that difficult to incorporate a pistol cartridge on a rifle frame ?

Not difficult at all.

However, apparently the demand isn't there or they would be doing it.

I did see that EABCO offers 5.7x28 FN, .32 H&R Mag, .38 Spl, .357 Mag, & .44 Mag barrels..

I too see the EBCO stuff appears to offer a lot of the items I was looking for, that weren't there around this time last year.

A lot of the offerings in metric calibers have been significantly expanded, which is heartening.

MGM and a few other aftermarket TC bbl makers can make you an encore barrel in any caliber or configuration you want or can even image. From 5.7x28 to 500s&w, 25acp to 8x57

The only shortcomings in variety for the encore would stem from lack of funds or imagination

posted via that mobile app with the sig lines everyone complaints about

You might also want to look at H&R....I bought one of thier break action rifles in .223 a while ago and looked the up online. They offer other barrels fitted to your action( you send them the action) in a lot of other calibers and guages....Not too bad on price either.
