I forgot the name but it can be bought at any home improvement store or ebay.
The spring tension of those front sight hood is a pain to take off. I have to use two shoe laces and pull on either side just to get it off and put it back .

An outside snap ring pliers will work well.

If you have a pair of needle nose pliers in a smaller size, just put one jaw on each side of the sight blade as far in as possible without touching the blade and then pull them open. Putting a little elec. or duck tape on the jaws helps too.

Just removed and installed a hood on my Yugo M48 today. Here's how I did it:

1. Whacked it off with a hammer. Took 4 seconds,
2. Re-installed it by widening it with tough cord wrapped around both hands and sliding it over the front sight. I wish I could explain it better. Installed in about 7 seconds.

I used to use reverse pliers but found it to be less than satisfactory.

Best solution I have used for installing a hood. Just tap it off with a mallet.

I went to Sears and got the internal snap ring pliers cost about $12 included tax. I d say it was a breeze to take off the hood off my M 48 and 24/47. I had marred the sides before so this time i reblued with Birchwood Casey . I highly recommend the Craftsman internal and external snap ring pliers. It comes with several tips from straight, 45 deg and 90 deg. I used the straight one following the link site above and it took only less than 20 secs.

Next ill have to get the front sight adjustment tool for the late model M 44. This time it isnt cheap , about $25.00 from Ebay.
