Just wondering and it is most likely a stupid question most/all of the SOG stuff I own is top notch. I usually get to handle the product before I buy but not this time.... So I would like your opinions please. Thanks. :)

The SOG Fusion Jungle Primitive Knife:

I purchased at Cabela's online for $55.00 and with certain perks I only had to pay shipping $12 so I basically purchased it for the price of shipping alone so even if it is not a great review I still can't feel too bad. It is a Christmas gift for my father to keep in his truck. I will say it must be popular because I did not see it on the Cabela's website this morning when I checked on the shipping status.

For a truck knife I don't see anything wrong with it.

Steel is nothing special, you could get 1095 with a bit of looking. Again, as a truck knife who cares, beat the snot out of it. :)

Thanks, It just came in last night and I think my father will like it.... I am not so sure I won't get one for the price and keep it in mine either why not! No you are right looking into it further it is not anything really special, I suspected that originally due to the price of the knife but I have several higher quality SOG's and love them all but it would be great to have one for:
beat the snot out of it. :)
Applications. :D

I will try to get some posted, I have had difficulty in the past trying to get photos downloaded before but will try again.

This is a video from the Official SOG website discussing the "Junge Primitive Model F03T.

Pretty sweet deal for under $70. :)

Looks to me more likely to beat the snot out of the user rather than vice versa, but if it floats your boat...

For a big knife/ machete type "Utility Tool" I believe it was referred to as it for under $80 is really a pretty good knife. I kind of played around with it when I gave it to my father and the handle has really good grip on it the knife seems very sturdy and it is certainly very sharp for sure. All-in-all very good purchase I think. I would recommend it to anyone with a use for one that does not wish to spend too much. :)

While I appreciate that you at least handled it first, it's probably not fair to give a "recommendation" for a knife that you haven't cut things with. (Since you got this as a gift, I do understand that may not be practical.)

Maybe sometime AFTER you give it, you can get a few hours to play with it, and check things like how long it keeps a sharp edge, and how it feels in the hand when chopping. :)

I am assuming JShirley that I suppose you have plenty of experience with it since you posted like that about my "recommending" it? If you have a good report about this product I am all ears.....

" it's probably not fair to give a "recommendation" for a knife that you haven't cut things with" statement and it did just fine for what we did chop down in the back woods after I gave it to him thank you, otherwise I would not have said " and it is certainly very sharp for sure" I can tell if the thing is sharp or not... just saying. As for my time in the field to give an accurate account of the SOG I doubt a weekend is really enough time to really give a professional opinion just a quick observation at best. Please for future reference this was an opinion given to a field tool that is under $80.00 good enough for what my OP specified as a good machete/knife to keep in a pickup truck. :)

So "YES IMO" > Not that it means much: I still give it a good recommendation mabye a 4 out of 5 stars for an $80.00 SOG to keep around for whatever you choose.;)

As a matter of fact my brother-in-law who also handled it is now wanting one.....

I posted that it's not really fair to give a recommendation on a tool until you've used it. It's unfortunately common for folks to get a knife, handle it briefly without cutting with it, and then, recommend it. On the other hand, if you have a knife like this, and can already speak to the handle design preventing hot spots when chopping, slicing ability, edge retention, lack of edge deformation after chopping, ease of resharpening, and usability of the sawback for notching, recommend away.

Still,

John
