Ejector star pin fell out, now what?

I was deep cleaning one of my recent S&W acquisitions when I noticed this tiny pin on the mat. Turns out it's one of the two ejector star pins normally located on the cylinder. I was surprised it just "fell" out since the gun has obviously been around for a while and fired.

In any event, when I reassembled the gun I just stuck it back in the hole.

Surely there must be more to do?

Try a very fine peen on the first end in or a little dab of Locktite.

Just to expound a little on Remllez advice....

Use an anvil, or, a dead flat piece of steel you can use as an anvil. Take a piece of tape. Masking tape or cloth medical tape is good. Tape it down flat on the anvil. Squeeze the tape down so you can see the shape and the end. Lightly tap it with a hammer on one end, on the side. You want to knock it just a tiny bit out of round on one end. Drive it back into the hole. I seriously doubt it will ever move again.

Trust me on the tape. If you smack it and it jumps, just go ahead and order a couple more while you try and find the one that got away.

Putting a flat spot on a pin to "lock" it in is a time tested and legit way to fix any pin on a revolver and was taught in S&W armorers school.

Or....call Smith's customer service number...bet they'll fix it gratis including shipping. I've had two Smith's fixed in the last two years, albeit for different problems; one was right at 20 yrs old. And...I had them back in my hands in a week.

Best Regards, Rod
