Looking for suggestions on a holster for S&W Mountain Gun.
Mostly to be used as back-up/defensive weapon in the woods.
What do you guys use? Pictures appreciated.

El Paso Saddlery's Street Combat holster is excellent, I use it for both my 4" 629 and my new Lew Horton Special 624. Super holster, very heavy, and top quality leather. Customer service is excellent!

Dillon's offers holsters made specifically for the Mountain Guns and other 'N' frames with 4" slender barrel.
They also have a holster for the 5" full underlug barreled 'N' frames.

If you'll be carrying a backpack with a padded hip belt, take a look at the safepacker by The Wilderness.

These are great holsters for rough country.

Whose grips are those? I really like the plug covering the grip screw.

My vote is a Krammer Vertical Scab with an FBI tilt. It holds the butt tight against the side when installed on the center line. Great to conceal. Great for IDPA. Use mine for a 625 4", Holster was made for a 5 inch. Will work great for your Mountain Cousin. Krammer has a website, www.krammerleather.com. The picture above is very close, mine does not come up as high on the grip. Enjoy...:D

this revolver is a beast to photograph. Get the exposure right on the grips and background and the sideplate is washed out Get the side-plate detailed and everything else is dark. So, I manipulated this one by cut and paste.-putting the grips in a separate image screen, raising the light level and re-pasting it.

Another recommendation for the Kramer holster from Dillon. I've worn mine often for the last several weeks and am very pleased with it. Looks great too.

I have been quite happy and turnaround was less than a month and you can
pick the options (if any) you desire.

I believe Uncle Mikes or another mass manufacturer makes something similar for a lower price.
This could be easily carried without interfering with your pack.
Good luck!

Similar concept, but a little more flair. US "Tanker" M-3 style holster from El Paso, with optional ammo slide and border stamping.
In the woods, I do not like things on my hips as they:
1) bang into stuff
2) leave the gun generally exposed to damage
3) forces me to wear a thick belt instead of shorts, etc.
This style has a belt loop on the bottom, but it's not necessary to use the holster. I highly recommend it. This is a version for a 3" bbl, and works with my 3" 629 or 3.5" 27. It keeps the gun completely out of the way and semi-protected from knock-about damage.
