Sooo... Wrong... But... Sooo... Right.

Looks good. I can only imagine the glory of the fireball this device could conjure forth.

December 16, 2012, 03:14 PM
Oh man, put 60 grains in there with a ball... that would be a nice big fireball and a ton of smoke. It may even create a mini concussion wave. :D

December 16, 2012, 04:15 PM
whats it weigh now...4 pounds? ;)

As I like to say, that's a laugh and a half!!

Even if you don't kill him right off, a near miss will suck the oxygen from your opponents lungs...and if he's standing close enough, it'll set him afire!

December 16, 2012, 08:44 PM
Hmmmmm, hand cannon. I'd like to see that one shot.

December 17, 2012, 06:10 PM
I will be the first to say it out loud. At first to see a Walker cut down almost made the eyes water and stomach tighten up. But after looking at all the pics I started looking at my Walker with ideas on same or close to same. Darn that thing is awesome, would love to see it belch flame and smoke, doubt that my skinny butt could handle it but I would give it a go at least once.

Note the Walker in among 'em.

Nice piece you've made there.

Prairie Dawg - where did you take those pictures from?

I don't remember as I have had them many years.
I love everything snubby & have been collecting pics for a long while.
Just looked it up.
The Utah Gun Collectors Association October 2000 40th Anniversary Gun Show
Here's a link to the show's stuff -- not the page where I got the images.
I think I got them from the original show

Actually the big one in that photo of all the snubs is a third model Dragoon and not a Walker. I've seen that display before and I love it.

Can anyone explain to me just how the hell you are supposed to operate the loading lever on the shiny '49 Pocket in the top right corner of that photo? Or is it just there for decoration?

These guns are on display at every Utah Gun Collectors show held in Ogden, Ut. They were guns popular with the Mormon Missionarys in the old days. They needed pistols they could carry in their coat pockets. The term Avenging Angle refers to the Danites the secret police and enforcers of Brigham Young Mormon leader.

December 18, 2012, 01:33 PM
Not Missonaries but the men who acted as security for the First Presidency and who acted as not secret at all law enforcement. Indeed several became US deputy Marshals after Utah was forced to be a territory and the president of the church removed from secular power via Washington appointment of a territorial governor.

The Danites were disbanded before the Mormans went to Utah, but get brought up repeatedly. No doubt some who had been Danites were still about But as the founder of the group was something of a splinterer the groups was done away with as being contray to doctorine. They made good boogy men for quite some time though for anyone that had anything bad to say about the Mormans.

Before I hacked my Walker down to 2 1/2" it was about 5 inches or so. Note my stubby loading lever. I had a friend machine a rod that was hollow on one end to slip over the stub for leverage. They probably did something similar with that '49 pocket.

December 18, 2012, 02:35 PM

I really like the looks of that chopped Walker! What did you use for the front sight?

December 18, 2012, 07:37 PM
That there's a beaute, bet the lever doesn't drop with heavy loads, thanks to the reduced weight of the handle.

December 19, 2012, 08:20 PM
Doesn't drop at all now that it is gone and the barrel is 2 1/2" :)

The new front sight on the snub is a piece of cut off 1/8" inch brass rod. I shaped the end into a cone, drilled a hole in the barrel and silver soldered it in.

You did fine work and made an interesting snubbie from a true hand cannon.

December 22, 2012, 04:12 PM
I've always been a fan!

December 22, 2012, 05:16 PM
wow, im conflicted... equal parts horrified and intrigued
the rational part of me is like "why mess with a fine pistol", the carefree part is "thats Awesome!"
nice job on 'em too

It's like a good English Bulldog, ugly as hell but lovable and I wish I had one. Well done and I hope you can provide us with a range report.

I shot it yesterday in the late afternoon/early evening. My friend filmed it on his phone so I will try to upload it onto youtube to share. It was quite an experience!

I've got a Stainless ROA that has some very noticeable pitting on the last 1/2 inch of the barrel from the previous owner leaving it in a wet holster. I've been planning to cut her down to 5.5" but maybe I should go shorter. Hmmmm... what to do?

December 31, 2012, 03:25 AM
is the pitting on the inside or outside of the barrel?

December 31, 2012, 03:37 AM
Nice pics!

The perspective on the cocked pic makes the hammer look ungodly larger than the pistol itself!

A real beauty!

December 31, 2012, 04:31 AM
Oh yeah.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! (Big Daddy Hoffman 1911 reference- YouTube)

If I recall correctly only on the outside. Why, do you have a better idea for her than shortening her up?

December 31, 2012, 02:16 PM
Awesome! I could never do that to my beautiful new Walker, but I have a slightly rough old used Pietta 1851 Navy that I bought for $100......

January 1, 2013, 04:27 AM
not really Malachi, it's just that if the interior of the barrel was good, like Rondog, I'd have a hard time doing it, and if the barrel were pitted, with a damaged crown, why, that would be a little easier [for me, YMMV] to cut down...

You should turn it into one of these then. I made this out of a Pietta:

Makes me yearn for my Remy Gunslingers to make a reappearance.....or maybe just do this to some Colt repro's too.
So many ideas, so little time and less money.
If I did that to a Walker I could be "Hand Cannon Harper" and I here by reserve that name. LOL!

January 1, 2013, 02:09 PM
Being somewhat C&B "challenged", I gotta ask - how do you load these sawed-off pistols with the loading levers removed?

January 1, 2013, 05:51 PM

I was actually a little unprepared when I went to my friends house to fire the Walker. He's got like 7 Dragoons so he had everything else needed to load and fire it. I ended up using a long brass screw and tapped the ball in with a hammer. I'm probably going to make something out of one of the old Walker loading levers I have kicking around.

January 2, 2013, 09:30 AM
I think a cylinder loading stand would be just the ticket for that:

January 2, 2013, 09:46 AM
I'd call it the Fire Walker! I would love to see some night pics of that shooting some bad a flames and smoke , that would be something.

January 2, 2013, 05:27 PM
THAT is fantastic!!

January 3, 2013, 10:33 AM

Did you miss this one?
