I'm officially a reloader!

I just finished my very first loads- 60 rounds for my Garand.

147gr pull down .308 bullets.

Greek HXP surplus brass with primer crimps removed.

Winchester Large Rifle Primers.

47.5gr IMR 4895.

Finished cartridges are the exact same length as the Greek HXP from CMP.

Now I just need to find the time to go try them out!

The only thing that feels better than loading your first batch of ammo is shooting your first batch of ammo. You are going to love it especially when all the bullets go where you tell them to go! lol

i, too, lost my reloading virginity to the .30-06

...and nerveracking the first few times you pull the trigger. A flurry of thought processes went through my head...did I charge it right? Seat it at the right OAL? What if it blows up??

BTW, there's a science to filling the clips properly. Takes practice.

My first loads were loaded on my front door step with a Lee whack-a-mole loader , imagine seating a primer with a hammer , had me :scrutiny: my sanity !!!

Congrats! It's an awesome, nerve wracking, straight adrenaline, scared to death feeling those first few pulls of the trigger, but its an awesome thing. Its great to know, that if you need ammo in a hurry, like for unexpected trip planned to range next day, no need to run to the store, just make it. :D

Welcome to the fun worrld of reloading. My first reloads were with my 22/250. The fun part is working up a load that shoots the best in each gun.

Congratulations. I recall getting the courage up to shoot my first reloads which were 45ACP. I wanted to hide below the bench and pull the trigger with a string. I had as much relief as joy when they all shot fine. <whew!>

Im warning you, get out while you can. this hobby will suck you in. soon you will find yourself scrounging brass in calibers that you dont even own yet, you will find yourself digging through trash cans looking for ammo trays, you will start talking to the people on the range to see what they are shooting only to call dibs on their brass. you will also get this weird twitchy feeling if you have any piece of brass that has sat unloaded for more than 12 hours.

Strange------I tend to get that twitchy feeling in my trigger finger every time I look at my stack of full ammo cans in the corner.:eek: Thought it was just my imagination.:D

That's great! For me, handloading/load development/bullet casting (if you go that far) is a close second to actual shooting. And it gives something to do when you can't get to the range. I don't do it to save money (don't tell my wife!) but just because it's fun.

Well I must be too far gone then, because last weekend, I was going through trashcans looking for brass and trays that the non-reloading crowd was just throwing away. It's was a good day though, came home with a 5 gallon bucket full of brass. :)

I realized my addiction when I realized I was looking for new wildcat shooting spots to get the brass rather than shoot what I had brought to shoot.
