This is a new ultra low velocity, highly accurate, rifle/pistol round formed from 40 S&W cases

It is called the 277 Wesson Super Ultra Short Mini Magnum or .277 WSUSMM (pronounced "wussoosssemmmm," kind of like a laser and air hose together).

40 S&W for comparison

It should catch on with stoolrest shooters as it has almost no neck, no interference there. You can really jam the bullet into the grooves with so much sticking out. The .227 bullet has an excellent ballistic coefficient which should stabilize nicely in a 1 in 9.768" twist barrel.

Hunters have loved the 270 Win since it came out, now they have a new round to be excited about. With an estimated velocity of 650ft/sec, it should have enough power to knock the biggest field mouse or a small pigeon over at ranges just further than a stones throw. Even the most recoil sensitive shooters can rest easy with a cool .5 ft lbs of recoil from a 7 lb rifle.

Not a rifle shooter? That's fine; it has an OAL of 1.820" meaning it is just an easy rebarrel and new cylinder for the S&W 500 revolvers. I think it would really well suited for a semi-auto, when will Magnum Research up-size the Desert Eagle?

It would have looked more natural in a 357sig.

I necked it down in a 38 die, then a 30 carbine die, and then ran it into the shoulder of a 22-250. So for a minute it was a 357 sig. The biggest reason it doesn't have a neck is because I don't have a neck expander for it.

The sad thing is you had to explain that it was an attempt at humor. A successful one at that.

Who's making a rifle for it? Almost sounds like a subsonic load.

That's a hell of a crimp you have there, but you missed the cannalure. :D

The bullet actually bottoms out at the cannalure; I believe you would need a centrifugal seating die to seat all the way and still get powder in there.

Its gonna make recreational air rifles obsolete..again. Hopefully El Gamo, Daisy, and Bemjamin will soon follow suit.

No problem, just use a hollow core bullet and Carnation Condensed Gunpowder.

Or, you could just fill all that empty space between the case wall and the bottomed out bullet. Drop your charge into the case and then once you get the bullet started just enough to seal off the case, turn the press upside down and finish seating. We don't need no steenkin' centrifugal force! :D

I knew I made my press detachable or a reason; now to attach a second bench to the ceiling.

Or, I could just mix acetone with the powder until it becomes a paste that will be displaced by the bullet as it is pressed in.

It's science.

I have actually killed deer with my handguns chambered for .357/44 Bain & Davis. One is a T-C Contender and the other is a Ruger Blackhawk.
The cartridge is simply a .44 mag necked down to .357. For hotter loads in the Contender I had some .30-40 Krag shells' rims turned and the rear end of the Contender barrel reamed for the extra thickness of the Krag rim vs. the .44mag's thickness. 150 grain Remington .358 softpoints work best in the Contender whereas regular .357 Hornady 158 gr. XTP-HPs work best in the Blackhawk.
