I have a Remington Model 40-x barrel with remington bolt action in 22LR, and was really wanting some opinions on how to get this done in another caliber, I know it would need a lot of changes. I do not shoot it much as is and would like to get it into another short action that is a good tack driver but not too small of a caliber, already have 220 swift,223, and then my larger ones are 7mm,270,257wby,30-30,308. Is a 260 rem, 6.5x284 out of the question for this setup, or how about a 25wssm or 6mm. Apreciate any ideas, I can send a picture if needed, currently is sitting in a custom thumbhole stock from some kind of california wood, from what I was told, genleman that made stock passed away years ago. Thanks

You cannot convert a 40X rimfire into a centerfire rifle.
I don't think it could be done even with unlimited budget.

I don't see where Remington is even making 40X centerfires any more.
You could probably put a short 700 barrelled action in the caliber you want into that stock without too much work. I think you could even get the magazine opening closed to make it as much like a 40X as possible.

It's a bolt action single shot, there is no magazine, so it would most likely have to stay that way, right? I'm fine with that, just want to convert to something else.

I figured the action would have to be changed, but, what would be a good caliber to go to, since I will need custom work done anyways?

you would be better off selling it to someone (like at the rimfire central website), and buying a 40x centerfire rifle.

i believe those 22lr rifles are quite desirable.

There is no practical, safe, or economical way to convert a 40-X rimfire to anything else.

It is what it is.

Sell it and move on with the money.

You will be way way ahead.
